Functional Location

PROJECT Transformation
Purpose
A functional location is an organizational unit to structure the maintenance objects of a company
according to functional, process-related or spatial criteria.
A functional location represents the place at which equipment(s) can be installed and a
maintenance task is to be performed.
Trigger
Functional locations need to be structured according to functional, process-related or spatial
criteria.
Prerequisites
Functional location name - Enter name of Functional location according to the edit
mask
Structure indicator- Enter name of structure indicator that refers to the appropriate
functional location
Functional location type- Verify functional location type
Menu Path
Use the following menu path(s) to begin this transaction:
Select Logistics Plant Maintenance Technical Objects Functional
Location to go to Create, Change and Display screen.

Helpful Hints
When creating a functional location for the first time (each login), enter the structure indicator
FIRST and hit enter. This will display the numbering/naming convention that must be used

2. On screen Create Functional Location: initial screen enter information in the fields as
specified in the table below:
Selection options F2
By hitting push button Selection Options you can make use of logical expressions.
Get variant
Variants can also be selected by using the icon Get variant or the menu path Go to >
Variants > Get.
5 Create variant
You can save your selection for multiple uses. To do so hit push button SAVE AS VARIANT
or Ctrl+S.
Enter variant name and description. Check the boxes that meet your selection criteria.
On this screen, you can define the attributes for the variant. Make sure you enter a
meaningful short text.
- Protect variant
If you select this option, the variant can only be changed by the
Person who created it or the last person to change it. If you start
A program using a protected variant, none of the fields on the
Selection screen accept user input.
- System variant
This option is set automatically, and cannot be changed. For details
Of how to create and maintain system variables, refer to the
Documentation for the initial variant maintenance screen.
- Type
The field type indicates whether the field is a parameter (P) or a
Selection option (S).
- Protected
If you select this option, the user cannot overwrite the value in
The field on the selection screen.
- Invisible
If you select this option, the corresponding field is not displayed
When the user starts the program using this variant. However, you
can still assign a value to the field in the variant.
- Selection variable
If you select this field, the field on the selection screen is

To select variant variables, choose SELECTION VARIABLES.
- Without values
If you select this field, the value of the corresponding field on
the selection screen is not affected when you start the program

using a variant.
By hitting push button SELECTION VARIABLES you can assign variables to the selection
variant.
By hitting push button screen assignment you can restrict the screen assignment.
After making your entries, select the Execute icon or F8 to continue processing
6.1. Select single or multiple records to display. The program will open each sequential
master record.
6.2. The list can be sorted ascending or descending using the icons or using the menu
path Edit > Sort in ascending order or Edit > Sort in descending order.
6.3. The list by be filtered or limited by selecting the icon or the menu path Edit > Set
filter. The list will now filter out the entered criteria.
6.4. Associated data on the equipment can be displayed by using the Environment
menu. This menu will display data related to the equipment such as Notifications,
orders, measuring points, maintenance items, etc.
6.5 From this list, the user can create a notification or an order. Enter the menu path
Goto > Create Notification or Goto > Create Order.
6.6 The display variant can be changed if desired. Select the icon or the menu path
Settings > Display variants > Current. In the pop up window, the user can add or
remove fields from the display, change the sort order and add additional lines as
needed. The columns can be moved from the pop up window or the main screen.
On the main screen, select the column and drag to a new position. The column can
also be resized.
6.7 Select a column and select the graphics icon or List > Graphic to view the graph.
For example- How many functional locations in each plant? Select the plant
column and choose graphic.
6.8 Columns can be moved and resized by selecting the column. Drag the column to
the new position or select the right edge of the column and resize.
To display the actual functional location master record, select the record, and follow the Business
Process Procedure, Display Functional Location.
OR
Leave the list with the exit icon or the menu List > exit.

On screen Create FunctLocation: List entry enter information in the fields as specified
in the table below:
Use the Copy reference menu button to select an operational functional location to copy
from. Choose which sub-objects you desire to copy from the reference to the new
functional location.
Use the Change structure menu button to change entries in the table. You
may copy to create another table entry or replace to change an existing
one.
Result
You have Created/changed /displayed Function location.
