Why I chose this

you're probably wondering why I chose

the Cuban missile crisis. Here's why:
It all started with an advertisement.
Yes, an ad. The ad used the term
the Cuban missile crisis I had no idea
what that meant. Did Cuba lose all of
their missiles? Did the united states
shoot missiles at Cuba? I was really
confused. So, I asked my mom what it
And she gave memeant.
the best answer ever:
youll learn about it in school when
youre older

"You'lllearnaboutitin
schoolwhenyou'reolder"
But, I couldnt wait until I was older.
About 2 weeks later, me and my class
started working on research projects.
I was thinking about doing a report
on German shepherd mixes; but that
breed of dog is to hard to find. I kept
thinking of things. Then I thought about
the Cuban missile crisis.
Then I started writing the flowchart in
my writing journal and the first
question was: what is the Cuban missile
crisis? Followed by what happened?
And when? And A lot more. I had to
start from scratch.

Ihadtostartfromscratch
So, The first thing I typed in when I
started working on the facts was:
what was the Cuban missile crisis?
And then I typed in other things
about the Cuban missile crisis.
Then, I told my dad about it. And he
said: Theres a whole blockade
during the Cuban missile crisis!
I was pretty confused. Whats a
blockade? I asked myself. So, I typed
in the search bar: what is the
blockade of the Cuban missile crisis?
Then I typed: What is a blockade?
Then I started doing some research.

"There'sawholeblockade
duringtheCubanmissile
crisis!"
To tell you the truth, I was at a
cliffhanger most of the time. It was so
Intense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I
started making a timeline and I got to
here. And you can thank the ad.

Andyoucanthankthead.

Chapter 1.
what is the Cuban
missile crisis?
The Cuban missile crisis was an
argument that lasted for thirteen
days ( October 15 to October 28 1962)
between the soviet union and the
U.S.A
here's what happend:

In 1962 the soviet union

Thesovietunion secretly placed nuclear
wasaplaceinUSSR tipped missiles on the
communist led island
of Cuba.
Then, In october 1962, John F.
Kennedy was informed of a U-2
spy planes discovery of nuclear
missiles in cuba.

nuclearmissile

And in the end,

The soviets withdrew the missiles after
the U.S publicly pledged never to
invade Cuba and privately promised to
withdraw their own nuclear missiles
from turkey.
chapter 2.
the soviet union.
first things first; we should all know
what the soviet union is, if we are
talking about the Cuban missile crisis.
So here goes.....
On december 30 (my B-day!) 1922,
USSR established and became the
soviet union.
In the decades after it started the
Russian-dominated soviet union grew
into one of the worlds most powerful
and influential states and
eventually surrounded 15 republicans.
The soviet union flag looks like this:

and the soviet union was in the USSR.

(USSR is russia now)

chapter 3.
what a blockade is.
A blockade is closing off/surrounding
a place by ships or army troops
So, in the next chapter you will learn
about the blockade of the Cuban missile
crisis
So, if I was to use this in a sentance, it
would be something like this:
The president of the country ordered a
blockade of another country.
we'll talk more about this in the next
chapter.
Chapter 4.
The blockade of the Cuban missile crisis.

The blockade began October 21 and,

the next day, John F. kennedy
delivered a public address alerting the
americans about the situation.
In his speech, He warned the
frightened americans that the
missiles on cuba were capable of
hitting washington D.C. (our state
capitol!) or anywhere in the
southeastern part of the country.
Including The panama canal, Mexico
city, or even as far as hudson bay,
canada.
John F. Kennedy told his audience to
evacuate The U.S. base in Guantanamo
Bay in Cuba. Boldly, he stated one
path we shall never choose is the path
of surrender
Khrushchev* responded by sending
additional ships-possibly carrying
military cargo-toward cuba.
Over the following 6 days, now known
as the cuban missile crisis, brought the
world to a brink of global nuclear war.
Luckily, by october 28, John F.
Kennedy and Khrushchev reached an
agreement and people on both sides
breathed a sigh of relief.
The Cuban missile sites were
dismantled and, in return, John F.
Kennedy agreed to dismantle the
missile sites in turkey.

Chapter 5.
The real big problem
Cuba is exactly 90 miles from florida.
If Cuba sends a missile that way, it
will hit america no problem!
now, you might think that 90 miles is a
long way. Well, not really. If it's
neighbor to neighbor, 90 miles is alot.
But, if it's country to country, it should
be, (unless it's connected) like 1000
miles!!!!!!!!!!!! 90 miles is much to
short!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, Cuba is close to any southeastern
part of america. It was also capable of
hitting other countries like Mexico and
Canada.
because those countries are
connected to America!!!
Chapter 7.
the timeline of the cuban missile crisis
First day: President John F. Kennedy
was informed of a U-2 spy planes
discovery of nuclear-tipped missiles in
cuba.
Second day: photos come from another
U-2 flight, that show more missile sites;
and 16 to 30 missiles!
Third day: President John F. Kennedy
is visited by soviet foreign minister
Andrei Gromyko who declares that the
missiles are not a threat to the united
states.
Fourth day: President John F.
Kennedy leaves for a campaign trip to
Ohio and Illinois and in washington,
his advisors continue the debate over
the necessary and appropriate course
of action.
Fifth day: President John F. Kennedy
and his advisors begin to make a
speech warning the american people.
Sixth day: After attending church
with his wife, John F. Kennedy meets
with Walter Sweeney of the tactical
air command who tells him that an air
strike could not guarantee 100%
destruction of the missiles.(they
wanted to destroy the missiles)
Seventh day: John F. Kennedy
telephones former presidents, briefly
informing them of the situation.
Eighth day: Assistant secretary of
state seeks a resolution of support
from the organization of the american
states. As soviet union people bound
for cuba with military supplies stop
dead in the water, But the oil tanker
Bucharest continues toward cuba. He
also sends a letter to Khrushchev
telling him to halt any russian (really,
soviet) ships heading toward cuba.
Ninth day: Khrushchev replies
indignantly to the letter, saying: you,
Mr. president are not declaring a
quarantine, but rather are setting
forth an ultimatum and threatening
that ifwe do not give into your
demands you will use force!!! Consider
what you are saying!!!!!!!!! And
Much more.
Tenth day: knowing that the missiles
in cuba were still operational, John F.
Kennedy personally drafts a letter to
Khrushchev, again urging him to
change the course of events.
Eleventh day: In a private letter, Fidel
Castro, The prime minister of cuba at
the time, urges Khrushchev to initiate
a nuclear first strike against the
united states. (Uh-oh. Thats
us.) Also, a long, rambling letter
from Khrushchev to John F. Kennedy
makes an offer: Removal of the
missiles in exchange for lifting the
quarantine and a pledge to never,
ever, invade cuba.
Twelfth day: Over Cuba, an
american U-2 plane is shot down
by a Soviet-supplied surface-to-air
missile and the pilot, Major
Rudolph Anderson, is killed. (so
sad.) President John F. Kennedy
awards Major Rudolph Anderson
the distinguished service medal,
posthumously.
Thirteenth day: The Cuban missile
crisis ends. Radio moscow
announces that the soviet union
has accepted the proposed solution
that states that the missiles will be
removed in exchange of a non-
Invasion pledge from the united
states.
