Full Semester 2 Reflection

Throughout second semester we read a Novel called 1984 in which we kept a journal

and eventually had a socratic seminar in which we spoke about technology, political,

and the views on how far we should go into invading people's privacy. The socratic

seminar was to help us share our thoughts and our insights on the novel comparing it to

todays similar issues in a way. After we wrote an essay allowing us to show the reader

what we learned from the novel. We continued reading outside of school, and had a

couple of learning logs to. Reading outside of school helps us increase our knowledge

by allowing us learn new vocabulary words, gain more insight. We also we assigned five

writing samples and each was a different type of writing. Each writing sample is a

different type of writing style to teach us the different formats of writing one was a

narrative story where we had to use our imagination and create a story. We also had a

research paper in which we had to research a current issue, another sample was an

objective summary in which we focus on a story's main plot. Another one was a creative

theme response in which we focused on a character and how she/he changed

throughout the story. Last was a writing reflection where we wrote about how we felt

about all of our writing samples. All these were tools that helped us in writing to help us

become more advanced in writing, using real world problems that most english classes

do not cover.
