Chapter III

Methods and Procedure of the Study

This portion presents the methodology of research used in the study. It

also discusses the sample and sampling procedure, research instrument, research

environment, data gathering procedure, and the statistical tools used.

Research Design

In this particular study, the descriptive method was used with questionnaire as

the main tool in gathering data. The main problem is the identification of the

effectiveness of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in the well-being of beneficiaries

of Barangay San Antonio, San Mateo Isabela

Sample and Sampling Procedure

Purposive Sampling was used in the study with 13 individuals as the

respondents. These individuals are the active beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang

Pilipino Program in Barangay San Antonio, San Mateo Isabela and served as the

respondents in the study.

Research Instruments

In order to obtain pertinent data for the study, the researcher used questionnaire

patterned primarily from the Social Welfare and Development Indicator formerly social

welfare indicators as the main instrument. This is used as an assessment and

monitoring tool to track the progress of the poor household from survival to self-

sufficiency
The questionnaire composed of three parts. Part I is a checklist intended to

gather data on respondents profile such as gender age and number of dependent

children. Part II is designed to find out effects of the program on economic sufficiency of

the beneficiaries. Part III is a checklist made to find out effects of the program on

economic sufficiency of the beneficiaries

i. The average of the actual scores in the different indicators will give the

level of well-being of the family or individual being assessed. For individual

scoring, compute the average of Actual Scores as appropriate for the

individual score in Economic Sufficiency and Social Adequacy measures.

It is noted that the scores by indicators may vary from low 1 to a high 3.

The average from the combination of the different scores will therefore

give the level where the client or clients belongs to.

The following are the guides for individuals and families being rated.

Level of Well-being SCORE POINTS Description


Level 3 2.83-3.00 If the SWDI Index is greater

than or equal to 2.83, the

family is categorized as

Level 3.
Level 2 1.83-2.82 If the SWDI Index is greater

than or equal to 1.83 but

less than 2.83, the family is

categorized as Level 2.
Level 1 1.00-1.82 If the SWDI Index is less

than 1.83, the family is


categorized as Level 1.

ii. Level of Economic Sufficiency is the computation will be automated in the

Social Welfare and Development Indicators (SWDI) system. Score for

Economic Sufficiency:

Econsuff= (0.06*ES1) + (0.11*ES2) + (0.75*ES3) + (0.08*ES4)

wherein ES1 is average score of the employable skills of the covered

family members, ES2 is average score of the working status of the

covered family members, ES3 is score of the income indicator and ES4 is

score of the social security and access to financial institutions indicator.

iii. Level of Social Adequacy score:

SocAdeq= (0.46*SA1)+ (0.04*SA2)+ (0.38*SA3) +

(0.08*SA4)+(0.04*SA5)

Where; SA1 is the score for the health component, SA2 is score for the

housing component, SA3 is the score for the education component, SA4

is the score for the role performance component, and SA5 is the score for

the family awareness component.

iv. Social Welfare and Development Indicator (SWDI) Index:

SWDI= (0.333* EconSuff) + ().067*SocAdeq)

Research Environment

The study was conducted at Barangay San Antonio, San Mateo Isabela. The

main subject of the study is the 17 active Pantawid beneficiaries who are receiving their

cash grants through cash card at Landbank, Santiago City Isabela.

Data Gathering Procedure

The permission to conduct the study was obtained from the Regionals office of

Department of Social Welfare Development. The questionnaire was distributed and

administered by the researcher to ensure 100 % retrieval. The data was gathered

properly tabulated on a data sheet for analysis and interpretation.

Statistical Tool

In the analysis of data, the following statistical tools were used:

1. Frequency count and percentage. These were used to describe the profile of the

respondents.

Formula for Percentage: Percentage = Frequency x 100

Grand Total

2. Mean Percentage Score was used to determine the level of subsistence by the

respondents to the 4Ps.
