EMOTIONS LIFTED BY
WHITE WINGS
This years spring play, the Laramie Project,
brought tears to the eyes of the entire
audience that went to see it. In fact, during
intermission the actors would flood to the
backstage in tears due to the emotions
this play caused. Not only was the Laramie
Project one of the most heart wrenching
performances the Patriots Players have ever
put on the stage but it drew the most unique
individuals to our theatre. The audience
regardless of sexuality, gender, religion, or
any other association was left awestruck by
how our schools amazing actors conveyed
this story of how a town and its people have
been affected by the horrendous hate crime
that was the cause of Matthew Shepards
death in 1998. Despite the slight controversy
among the staff and students about the
theatre department even putting on a play
dealing with such a heavy issue like sexual
orientation, the Patriot Players put their hearts
and souls into making the last play of the year
the most powerful one yet. The magnitude
of the intensity of this play was made even
more so by it being in black box format which
means the audience was on stage eye to eye
with the actors. It drew many people within
the school and outside as well to the harsh
reality that being homosexual can make
one the target of a hate crime and how that
crime can affect the lives of everyone within
a single town. The immersion of going to 7 8
Laramie, Wyoming before the show helped
guide the cast and crew towards success.
Due to this being the last show for many
seniors, the memories created throughout the
process will not be leaving the hearts of this
theatre family.

PreREPARING FOR
PROM
Getting ready for high school prom could
be very time consuming and expensive.
From preparing for that perfect
promposal to spending a whole month
in advance looking through the best
makeup, hairstyles, and dresses, students
take this day very seriously. Nonetheless,
going through all the hassle is definitely
worth it for seniors. For the perfect prom
dress, one could go to Dillards where
the average cost ranges from $120 to
$150. What would be someones perfect
makeup look, specifically how expensive
is it? In a mix of high end brand and
drugstore makeup, a full face could be
done with the $127.70 you most likely
dont have laying around. Finally, you
cant be fully done without the hair.

On April 15th George Washingtons JROTC

Drill team & Honor Platoon were at the Rocky
Mountain Regional JROTC Drill Competition
early Saturday morning. In fact, they were the
only team there at the Denver Coliseum at
6:45am, despite the competition taking place
at 10am. Workers were setting up and the
place was starting to awaken. Why were they
there so early? Maybe it was an oversight in
time but they wanted to be prepared. They
went in with their Patriot Pride ready to show
how far all their practice has taken them.
Honor Platoon and drill teams competed,
taking home, multiple awards showing 6th
Battalion is the best. Overalll they placed
3rd in Denver Public School and in state. A
question asked to both GW teams, As a
team what was one of your best strengths for
the 2016-2017 year and what is thev team
still struggling with? Cadet Private First Class,
Emily Medina stated, We bonded as a
group making us a better functioning team,
resulting in having less drama but we still have
to work on our bad attitudes though and
not let it impact practice. Senior Eli Bartlett,
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel explained, We
did best with repetition as a team to achieve
alignment but we could spend more time
improving and focus in practice. We are so
proud of all our special teams members and
cant wait to see how you improve next year.
