Adobe Reader XI Deployment with Custom Settings

Adobe Reader software is the free trusted standard for reliably viewing, printing, and annotating PDF
documents. It's the only PDF file viewer that can open and interact with all types of PDF content, including forms
and multimedia.

First, download the latest release of Wsus Package Publisher: http://wsuspackagepublisher.codeplex.com/releases

Setup the application. You can use the Installation Guide.pdf to help:

Download the EXE installer for your language at:

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.00/
Download and install Adobe Customization Wizard at:
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/11.x/11.0.00/misc/

Unzip the EXE file with 7-Zip or other tool.

1) Run the Customization Wizard and click Open:

 2) Browse to the AcroRead.msi and open it:

3) Select Personalization Options, and check Suppress display of EULA:

 4) Select Installation Options, and select Installer will choose which product will be the default. Check
Remove all version of Reader, Enable Optimization and Enable Caching of installer files. Choose Silent
Installation and suppress reboot:

 5) Select Registry and browse to HKLM\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Right click on the value
and select Modify:

6) Choose Remove Value:

 7) Select Security and active Protected view for all files:

8) Select Online and Adobe online services Features and disable all features:

 9) Select Direct Editor then InstallExecuteSequence. Select CreateShortcut, InstallService and
StartService then Right-Click and Drop Rows:

10) Go to file and Save Package:

 11) Open Wsus Package Publisher and go to Tools then MSI Reader. Open the AcroRead.msi file. In the
dropdown list choose Property . Then look for Product Code. Copy the product code, you will need it
later. This code depend of the language you have downloaded, here the French version(1036):

 12) In Wsus Package Publisher, drag and drop Setup.exe on the Adobe Reader node or on the treeview:

 13) This will open the Update Creation Wizard. Drag and Drop other files in the Additional Files then click
Next:

14) If you have drag and drop the setup.exe file on the Adobe Reader node the Vendor Name and the
Product Name fields are pre-filled. Fill the Title field and put a description. Then click Next:

 15) Choose Msi Product Installed as Rule Type and click Add Rule:

16) In the Msi Product Code field, paste the code you have found in the Msi Reader, then click Ok:

 15) Check Delete Rules at Package Level and click Next:

17) Choose Msi Product Installed as Rule Type and click Add Rule:

 18) Paste again the Msi Product Code and check Reverse Rule then Click Ok:

19) Check Delete Rules at Package Level and click Next:

 20) Select the newly created update and, in the Status Tab choose your test group. Right click on a Test
Computer and click on Send Detect Now:

21) Once the command is complete, wait 1 minute so that the computer can perform the check.
22) Then Right click on the same computer and click Send Report Now. Wait 30 seconds so that the
computer can report.

 23) If the status is correct you can approve this update:

24) Right click on the update and select Approve:

 25) Select your test group and select Approve for Installation:

26) On the test computer, check for updates:

27) Install it. Verify that the update install silently.

 28) Check the status in Wsus Package Publisher:

29) If you start Adobe Reader XI, the first time you should not see the EULA. In the Help menu there are no
options for searching updates or Online Features. On the desktop and in the Start menu, no icons. The
%temp%\AdobeARM.log file should not be modified each time you open a PDF file.
