Preliminary Gravity Load Design Tool

Capable of modelling Columns, Walls, Beams
and Joists
Can input line, area or point loads
Models can be up to 6 storeys in height
Automatically distributes and transfer loads from
the top storey to bottom storey
Can produce material lists for costing

Instructions

1) Adjust snap to 100 cm & viewing area to 20 x 20 m, then generate a grid

2) Create 10 m long wall in the E-W direction
3) Define wall group as Lumber, S-P-F, No.3/Stud, 38 x ??? mm, @ 600 mm o/c, with
sheathing in wet service condition
4) Along a gridline 6 m North of the wall place two columns which divide the wall into ~
equal thirds
5) Define column group as Timber, S-P-F, No.2, unknown dimensions, unsupported
laterally, wet service
6) Define a 10 m long beam which spans over the columns; Glulam EX, Spruce-Pine,
20f-EX, dimensions unknown, laterally restrained on top face by joists, wet service
7) Define a roof joist area which cantilevers 2 m over the glulam beam to the North and
overhangs the wall by 1 m to the South
8) Roof joists are S-P-F, select structural (SS), dimensions unknown, spaced @ 300 mm
o/c, with sheathing in wet service condition
9) Raise the column grid points by 1 m
10) Select a N-S gridline and check the structure section view
11) Add a roof dead load of 0.5 kPa
12) Add a roof snow load of 2.5 kPa
13) Add an roof uplift wind load of 0.25 kPa
14) Run the analysis
15) Review results by member, results by group, reactions at base and materials list

9.23.5.1. Holes Drilled in Framing Members

(1) Holes drilled in roof, floor or ceiling framing
members shall be not larger than one-quarter the depth of
the member and shall be located not less than 50 mm from
