Unit 5 Assignment 4

Relationship with Client

Liaison with Client

I had an initial client meeting in unit 78 at the very start of the assignment
to discuss what exactly I was expected to do within the project and so I
understood correctly the clients requirements. I also met up with the
client on occasions to discuss my progress up to that point in the project.
This was recorded in the form of a client liaison diary, which I kept
updated as and when I met with the client. This helped me keep to date
with client and have a better understanding of what exactly the clients
expectations were throughout the project.

Dealing with difficulties or complaints

Also in unit 78, there were also various constraints I had faced during this
assignment. One of which was the timescale. This was because the
timescale for this assignment and the deadline was tight and I was quite
stretched for time meaning I had to be quick about completing individual
tasks so that I could hand all my work which had filled the assignment
briefs criteria and to a suitable standard.
Another difficulty was to actually design my digital graphics. This was
because I was not competent enough on Photoshop during the project as I
had no practice.

Revisions to brief
In unit 78, I was required to research about computer games of my choice
to the requirements of the brief for each assignment. Overall, in this unit
there was four individual assignments. The whole aim of this unit was to
create a concept design for a new game. The game could be a follow-on
from an already existing game series, or a completely new concept
altogether.
In my work, I decided to design a follow-on game from the already widely
popular first-person shooter franchise Call of Duty. For the game, I
designed: Call of Duty World War II, I initially had to conduct market
research into different types of games and the audiences of these games.
This would eventually help me come up with the design for my game and
help with the final proposal, which I would put together towards the end of
this unit.

Revisions to plan
The brief for assignment 3 in this unit asked me to create the digital
graphics and advertising images for the game that I have already pitched
to the game developers Rockstar Games. Previous to assignment 3, I had
already came up with the concept for my game and put together a pitch
for the game to show to the client, or in this case the game developers
that are hiring me to design this game for them. The graphics that I were
required to design in this unit was the game packaging for the game, an
A3 poster which would be used to promote the game and two sprite
graphics (the game background and a character from my game) which I
intend to use in my game.
Format

For this project, unit 78, I was required to consider the legal and ethical
codes of practice in the form of a written report. This meant covering in
detail the limitations of using copyrighted content, as well as bearing in
mind the ethical side of the project. Ethical considerations include not
offending a particular race or religion e.c.t. I covered this in a document
name legal and ethical considerations which can be seen below. I was
careful not to include any copyrighted content in my project such as
images and logos that already existed. Also, I couldnt make my project
offensive towards any people, as this would breach the ethical
considerations I was asked to contemplate throughout the unit.

The evaluation I created was basically a review of what the overall project
I had just completed. The last assignment in this unit asked me to write an
evaluation based on all the sub headings that it gave me, but I could
include any additional information about my project if I liked. The
evaluation critically analysed my project on what content I included that I
particularly liked, what I maybe should have included in hindsight and
what I might do to improve my project further if I was to do this whole unit
again.
I simply wrote the evaluation in a word document by itself.
The evaluation was a chance for me to reflect on all pieces of work in this
unit and give my honest opinion on what I thought I had done to a high
standard, as well as what I could have done better looking back. The
evaluation could help me in future projects as I assess what I could have
improved on so I know if I do another unit similar to this one, how I can
make it even more successful.
Constraints experienced
In unit 78, I was required to consider the legal
and ethical codes of practice in the form of a
written report. This meant covering in detail the
limitations of using copyrighted content, as well
as bearing in mind the ethical side of the project.
Ethical considerations include not offending a
particular race or religion e.c.t. I covered this in a
document name legal and ethical
considerations which can be seen below. I was
careful not to include any copyrighted content in
my project such as images and logos that
already existed. Also, I couldnt make my project
offensive towards any people, as this would breach the ethical
considerations I was asked to contemplate throughout the unit.
Management
Time management and working to timescales

I managed to meet the assignment deadline in this assignment , unit 56,

as the timescale I was given gave me more than enough time to complete
all the tasks I was set and hand all the work in to the official deadline. I
managed to use the individual learning plan effectively and efficiently so
this ensured I kept to a certain time frame of completing individual tasks
which led to me completing the project as a whole and handing in the
whole assignment to a good suitable standard to the deadline.

Communication Skills

I had an initial client meeting at the very start of the assignment to

discuss what exactly I was expected to do within the project and so I
understood correctly the clients requirements. I also met up with the
client on occasions to discuss my progress up to that point in the project.
This was recorded in the form of a client liaison diary, which I kept
updated as and when I met with the client.

Meeting requirements

In this assignment in unit 78, as mentioned in the previous assignment, I

was required to create and design my own game concept and idea which I
had to think of from scratch. By following the assignment brief and the
clients requirements, I was required to follow a certain process from the
initial planning and design stage to the actual production of the graphics
for the game such as the images of the characters and the backgrounds
and maps that I planned on using within the game. This was because my
game was a follow-on from the globally popular first-person shooter
franchise Call of Duty.
To guide me throughout this assignment, the client had pre-designed an
individual learning plan (ILP). I used the ILP as a visual representation of
what tasks I should be completing in the assignment by a day-to day
deadline. This basically means that the ILP showed me individual tasks
that were spread across each day and gave me guidance as to when I
should start the tasks and when I should have them completed by.
Achieved agreed outcomes

Another requirement of the assignment 3 brief was to produce a

document demonstrating the tools and techniques I used in the
production of the graphics in Photoshop. This is because I will be using
Photoshop to develop, edit and eventually publish my graphics upon
completion. I had to show this in the diary I created as well as a separate
document called the Checklist. The Checklist listed most of the tools I am
likely to use and asked me to not only explain what they can be used for,
but If I had used any of the tools in my own work and if so, where I used
them. Once I had finished all the graphics, I had to export the images so
that they can be optimised for print and be stored easily as a suitable file
format for my images. I had to showcase the exporting process of my
graphics in the diary.
I produced a proposal to lay out and explain my ideas in detail to the
client. I did this as part of the clients requirement and the assignment
brief, so it was crucial I put together a proposal for the client. The proposal
is important as it gives the client a chance to review my ideas for the
project in detail and assess whether or not this is what they wanted to
achieve in the first place. As with all the proposals I have produced in
previous units, I was given sub headings on the assignment brief that I
had to cover in

detail. This gave me the

chance to explain my ideas
in more detail and show the
client exactly what I wanted
to produce in this project.
Feedback
From Peers

After completing and publishing my 2D animation in unit 33, I began

creating a questionnaire for peer feedback. The questionnaire that I
designed included seven questions in total that are aimed at providing
extra information from other people in order to help me improve my
animation further, but also to give me advice on where I could improve for
future units that are similar to this one. I included both open and closed
questions in my questionnaire to help provide a larger variety of answers
from people who took my questionnaire, so that I could analyse my final
animation in more detail later on.
The first question that I asked on my form was Do you think the music
suits the theme of my animation? Out of the ten people that I asked, 9
people replied with Yes, with some of my peers elaborating on this
further by commenting that the music also made the animation more
memorable and exciting. This shows me that an overwhelming majority of
people who gave feedback on my product thought that my choice of
music in the ident was appropriate for the purpose of the video.

Do you think the music suits my ident?

Yes No

Final overall conclusions

The proposal in this assignment in unit 78, was the most time consuming
and detailed aspect of the whole project because it had to be. This is
because the proposal I created for this assignment would be handed into
the client prior to the production of any of my graphics. This was so that
they could examine my ideas for the game concept in detail and either
explain what I need to do to improve my game further and make
alterations, or say that they are completely happy with my ideas and
proposal for my game so I can continue with the graphic design and
production of my game.
I used an exceptionally professional layout in my proposal, as the
assignment brief required me to make my proposal as detailed and official
as possible, as the scenario was to create the game for a highly
established and popular game corporation Rockstar games. I used and
covered the sub-headings given to me by
the client, but I could also include any
addition content that I wanted the client to
know.
