1. Installation
The DS-License Server RLM is a Service or Daemon that validates the license quotas of
compressed data for registered DS-Systems and BLM Archivers. It is designed to be running
constantly and must always be accessible via TCP/IP connection from the relevant installations of
DS-System and BLM Archiver in order for these products to authenticate their licenses. Failover
can be provided for a period of time by an Emergency DS-License Server RLM (emergency USB
DS-Key), in case of problems with the Primary DS-License Server or connectivity between the DS-
License Server RLM and DS-System or BLM Archiver.
Asigra DS-License Server RLM is designed to increase your capacity flexibility with DS-System
and BLM storage license capacities. The DS-License Server RLM provides a total licensed
capacity for DS-Systems as well as for BLM Archivers, which can then be split by the DS-License
Server RLM administrator to multiple DS-Systems and BLM Archivers, depending on the type of
license purchased and the products purchased. DS-License Server RLM must be able to connect
to the Asigra License Server periodically via port 4417. The connection information for the Asigra
License Server is found in the configuration of the USB Key.
The DS-License Server RLM software product allows running of multiple DS-Systems and BLM
Archivers from a DS-License Server RLM by managing only one license. Any updates to the RLM
license are retrieved by the DS-License Server RLM directly from the Asigra License Server. It is
able to authenticate multiple DS-Systems and BLM Archivers installed in one domain in the same
geographical location or in different geographical locations. The total number of DS-Systems and
BLM Archivers available are free of charge, but pre-configured in advance by Asigra Head Office,
and may only be changed by Asigra Head Office. The DS-License Server RLM retains logs and
history which can be printed or exported to a file.
Storage capacity allocation in one domain or company can be adjusted by the domain
administrator. Transfer of Terabyte capacity between License Servers is not possible. All
Emergency DS-License server RLM license allocations for individual DS-Systems and BLM
Archivers come from the Production License Server. Asigra License Server controls all license
operations (updating license capacity, license tools, etc.) and License validations worldwide.
The DS-License Server RLM can be installed on 64-bit Operating Systems (Windows or Linux)
where it will run as a 32-bit application.
The DS-License Server RLM is designed to increase your flexibility with DS-System and BLM
storage license amounts.
You only need to purchase the recovery license that works with the DS-
License Server RLM.
You will receive a HASP USB Key from Asigra that must always be plugged
into the machine running the DS-License Server RLM.
Once the DS-License Server RLM is running, you can configure it to work with
your DS-Systems and BLM Archivers.
Service / Daemon (DS-License Server RLM) is designed to be running
constantly (24/7/365).
Hardware requirements are minimal, but the server / daemon must be on a
reliable machine and have Internet access to validate with the Asigra License
Server.
The DS-License Server RLM retains logs and history.
All log tables can be printed / exported to file.
On each DS-System and BLM Archiver, input both the Production License
Server and Emergency License Server (Setup Menu > License Server).
The only configuration required on the Emergency DS-License Server RLM is to register with the
Production DS-License Server RLM. All license allocations for individual DS-Systems and BLM
Archivers come from the Production License Server. For instructions, see 2.2.3 Emergency DS-
License Server RLM Configurations on page 26.
1. [Option A] Run the installation program from the corresponding folder on the
installation DVD:
Windows: The installation file can be found on the installation DVD in the
path:

Linux: The installation file can be found on the installation DVD in the path:
/Software/DS-License_Server/RLM/Linux_64_bit/setuplinux.bin
[Option B] Run the Asigra Cloud Backup Installation Center located in the root
directory of the installation DVD.
The Installation Center is a common launcher for all platform-specific
installations. It allows you to choose the specific installation package you
want, without the need to browse the installation DVD.
For Windows, run setup.exe
For Linux, run setup_lin.sh
2. A pre-requisite check is performed on the installation machine. This scans the
hardware and Operating System for compatibility (see 1.1 Hardware and Software
Requirements on page 9).
Click Next. The license agreement screen appears. You must accept the
license agreement to continue.
3. Follow the installation Wizard. Depending on the installation platform, some of the
paths will be different.
4. In the Installation Type screen, choose one of the options. (Typical is recommended.)
Typical: Installs both the DS-License Server RLM Service and GUI on the
target.
Custom: Allows you to select which component to install (Service or GUI)
5. Click Next. A confirmation screen appears listing the installation location and items.
6. Click Install. When finished, the installation summary screen appears. Depending on
your installation platform (Windows or Linux), this screen shows the paths to manually
start the Service / Daemon and the GUI.
Once you click Finish, the Service / Daemon is automatically started. For
more information see:
- 1.2.1 Starting and Stopping the DS-License Server RLM (Windows) on page 13

2. Start / Stop the Service from either the Service Screen or the Recovery License
Properties screen.
1.3 Uninstalling
Console mode offers a command-line style interface that requires single-key input commands to
change settings. The command prompt is pre-ceded by a default number in brackets (for
example [0]). If you press the Enter key, the default number is input. For a different
command, press another number from the menu on the screen.
Depending on the setup type selected, some screens may not appear. The
following describes a Typical Installation:
15. A confirmation command line appears. Press [1] and Enter to continue.
The installation starts.
16. Once the installation is has finished copying files, a confirmation command line
appears. Press [3] and Enter to finish the installation.
You can start the DS-License Server daemon and run the DS-License GUI by
pressing Enter.
You can manually start and stop the DS-License Server daemon with the
following commands:
Start DS-License Server: /etc/init.d/dslic.sh start
Stop DS-License Server: /etc/init.d/dslic.sh stop
Once a DS-License Server RLM Service / Daemon is running, you can connect to it from the GUI.
To launch the Asigra DS-License Server RLM GUI for Windows platform:
Browse:
Start > All Programs > Recovery License GUI
Command Line:
<installation directory>\dslicgui.exe
To launch the Asigra DS-License Server RLM GUI for Linux platform:

appears.
IMPORTANT NOTE: For Emergency DS-License Server RLMs, the only configuration you
perform is to enter the address of its Production DS-License Server RLM.
In the main GUI window, take note of the following differences for Emergency License servers:
The number of individual licenses (StandAlone, N+1, etc.) comes from the
Production License Server, therefore there is no maximum number (each will
usually show 100% in the display, even though more can be added).
The Current Amount Used is only adjusted when this Emergency License
Server receives fail-over verification from DS-Systems or BLM Archivers.
The Current Amount Allocated is automatically adjusted, depending on the
DS-Systems and BLM Archivers that have been assigned to this Emergency
License Server. (Assigning a license to use this Emergency License Server is
done on the Production License Server.)
1. Licenses menu > Emergency Server. The Emergency License Server screen
appears. All the Emergency License Servers that have connected to this Production
License Server and been verified are listed here.
TIP: This screen is best for viewing or editing registered Emergency License Servers. Although
you can add new Emergency License Servers to the list, you still need to register that
Emergency License Server with this Production License Server (see: 2.2.3 Emergency
DS-License Server RLM Configurations on page 26). Registering an Emergency License
Server will automatically fill this screen with the corresponding entry.
