TR3E - Vladimir Tatlin, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol

Pop art, abstract painting, and sculptures all very different forms of art from very

different artists, however elements from each of them can all be combined into one. Andy

Warhol, Pablo Picasso, and Vladimir Tatlin were all artists that made art that can be considered

abstract. Each artist was different in their own way. They were painters, photographers, and

sculptures. Each of them has a very different view of art. From their diverse works they show

how art comes in different shapes, colors, and sizes. Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, and Vladimir

Tatlin all shaped art and visual culture by the way they made their art unique.

Andy Warhol is extremely important to culture because he is the person who started pop

art. Andy Warhol lived from 1928 to 1987. He lived in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania when he was

young but moved to New York City to work to become an artist. Warhol became an artist when

he got a job working for Glamour magazine in 1949 ("Andy Warhol."). Warhol was influenced

by everyday objects and wished to make them pop. Andy Warhol influenced many people such

as Marcel Duchamp, Jasper Johns and Ben Shan (O'Brien). Having died in 1987, his work

continues to affect many of the advertisements and graphical images seen today. Warhol used

canvases and what not to do his paintings, however he discovered that he could use silk meshes

to make various prints and copy different versions of his painting with different colors (Andy

Warhol.). His work was very colorful, and as the name suggests it popped and made you want

to look at it.

Warhol, Andy. 32 Soup Cans. 1962. Museum of Modern Art. MoMA. Museum of Modern Art. 6

June 2017.

32 Soup Cans, a piece of art by Warhol exemplifies everything about him by showing

how he was able to make something like soup so interesting and appealing to the eye. This piece

of art is literally 32 printed soup cans in a four by eight grid. Andy Warhol used many elements

of art in this piece. He used lines to make the cans pop off of the page and made good use of

blank space to make the can seem like it jumped right off the page. Andy Warhol may be trying

to show the viewer the beauty of everyday normal objects. 32 Soup Cans influences my view of

art by showing me the beauty in simple things.

Pablo Picasso, along with Andy Warhol, is a very famous artist in human culture for

introducing the world to cubism and surrealism. Picasso was born in 1881 and died in 1973. He

mainly lived in both Spain and France. Picasso became an artist at a very young age "Pablo

Picasso.". Being able to draw and make art very well by the age of 13. His father was an

inspiration for him and he worked and eventually surpassed his skill level. He was also inspired

by Vincent Van Gogh. Pablo Picasso influenced many of the people who came after him along

with David Hockney, a published cubism painter. Picasso mainly worked with paint and canvas,

but also branched into ceramics, drawing, and sculpting ("Pablo Picasso."). In general, Picasso's

work was very far from being realistic. He took a much more liberal approach to how things

looked and intern had a very specific look to his works.

Picasso, Pablo. The Weeping Woman. 1937. Tate Modern. Pablopicasso.org. Pablopicasso.org. 6

June 2017.

The Weeping Woman, a painting by Picasso, embodies his main look of his work. It

includes cubism and some slight hints at surrealism. It shows how he made his art with the intent

of it being recognizable as something from the real world, but not being real. In this piece of art

it can be seen at a woman is crying and holding a tissue up to her nose. She is wearing a red hat

and has a green face. There are lots of sharp lines and she appears to be crying. Many attributes

of her face are blocky and do not look real. Picasso uses many attributes of art. First of all he

uses line as the main point of emphasis on his art. These lines are very dark and obscure that they

draw the attention of the viewers eyes. He uses various hues to make certain parts of the painting

pop, and does not have any blank space. Pablo Picasso is trying to tell the viewer that life can be

viewed in many ways. At first one may not see the crying woman, but if you look closer you can

see it and this is what you need to do in life, look closer. This piece influences my view of art

because it shows me that art does not need to look like things in the real world to be appealing.

Vladimir Tatlin is a very important artist in the history of human culture because his

work came at the start of the Constructivism movement and he worked to make very specific and

abstract sculptures. Vladimir Tatlin lived from 1885 to 1953. He lived in Moscow, Russia. He

originally became a painter to paint icons, or religious paintings for the Russian Orthodox

Church, however he stemmed from that later in his career ("Vladimir Tatlin; Russian Architect,

Painter, and Sculptor."). Vladimir Tatlin was influenced by the cubism of Pablo Picasso and the

Communist Movement. Tatlin influenced many of the communist during the period because he

wished to give them inspiration. He even attempted to construct a tower that would be their eiffel

tower. Tatlin used a combination of glass, wood, and metal on most of his sculptures. Although

Tatlin did paintings, reliefs, and sculptures, all of his works had a very imaginative and liberal

view ("Vladimir Tatlin Biography, Art, and Analysis of Works."). They were abstract and did

not necessarily look like things in real life.

Tatlin, Vladimir. Monument to the Third International. 1920. Museum of Modern Art.

MoMA.org. Museum of Modern Art. 6 June 2017.

Tatlins Tower, or the Monument to the Third International is a model for a large tower

the encapsulates all of Tatlins work. It shows his abstractness while also showing his clever and

beautiful work. Tatlins Tower is made up of many metal beams in a spiraling tower narrowing

as they get to the top. It is very hollow but also very large. It looks similar to the leaning tower of

pisa but with just its frame. This artist used many elements of design, especially blank space. He

used lots of blank space to make the tower look very open and abstract. The tower was designed

to be a sign of power and beauty for the Third International and his intention was to make it look

powerful yet beautiful. This work of art influences my view because it shows how even a

building can be made to look beautiful, other than just for a function.

Both art and culture were shaped by Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, and Vladimir Tatlin by

they way they each made their art their own. Each artist had various experiences that caused

them to turn to the form of art that they did. Without them, their art would not be the way it is

seen today. Each artist tried to convey some message through their work either the beauty of

everyday things, the idea that someone must look closer to see what is really going on, and that

art can show power and beauty. All of these artist influence my artwork because they show me

how abstract works are beautiful. They also show me how colors make art pop and how

structures can be just as, if not more beautiful than paintings and other pictures. All art tells a

story, but it is up to the viewer to decode and read it.
