Demographics
The capital and the largest city of
Lanao Del Sur in Mindanao. The city is
also called the summer capital of the
south due to its higher elevation and
cooler climate

Has a population size of 201,875


(according to 2015 census)

The people of Marawi are called


Maranaos and speak the Maranao
language
City of Zamboanga
Demographics
A highly urbanized city located in
Mindanao and the 3rd largest city in
the Philippines

Has a population size of 861,799


(according to 2015 census)

Zamboanga city is grouped up with


the province of Zamboanga del Sur
but is governed independently from it
History of Similar
Conflicts
Battle of Marawi
This is an ongoing armed conflict in Marawi Lanao del Sur
that started in May 23, 2017 between government forces
and of the ISIS aligned groups of Maute and Abu Sayyaf
Salafi Jihadists.
The government forces launched an offensive in order to
retake the city and to capture the leader of the Abu Sayyaf,
Isnilon Hapilon.
The death toll has risen to 188 with 30 of those are civilians
killed by the terrorist groups and 38 of those are
government forces casualty.
A big portion of the citys infrastructure such as schools
and government buildings was burned down by the
militants.
Zamboanga Siege
This was an armed conflict in Zamboanga City between the
government forces and a rogue faction of the Moro
National Liberation Front which erupted on September 9.
2013.
The clash between the two forces caused the displacement
of at least 100,000 people, economic reduction and city
wide lawlessness.

The citys ultimate mission is to


build back better homes and
better city for the benefit of the
young children. These included
programs like:
1. The NHAs Home Materials Assistance
The National Housing Authority (NHA)
together with the Housing and Land
Management Division Office of the city
government and the Department of Public
Works and Highways (DPWH) started Friday
afternoon, March 28, the distribution of
P30,000 worth of home materials assistance
to internally displaced persons (IDPs) who are
land title holders.
1. The NHAs Home Materials Assistance
The Home Materials Assistance is a program
under the Zamboanga City Roadmap to
Recovery and Reconstruction (Z3R) Plan for
IDPs whose homes were razed by fire during
the Zamboanga siege last September.
Beneficiaries must legally own the house
and/or land. They give a coupon that will be
given to the supplier, which will in turn deliver
home materials to the housing sites.
2. Art Exhibit for Kids
Basically, it is an art exhibit
produced by hundreds of
children who had been
affected by the siege. These
kids also have underwent
workshops for psychosocial
healing.
