STORY PLAN

Prologue In the middle of the night a man is running down the road. It is raining.
He slips and falls and hits his head. He is unconscious.

Chapter One A man wakes up on the street and cant remember who he is. He
starts walking around trying to shake off a headache. He is very confused. He goes
up to a policeman to ask for help when the policeman calls for backup and they start
to chase him. He runs away.

Chapter Two The man hides out in an abandoned warehouse. He finds a photo in
his back pocket. It is of four people (two men and two women). He studies it and
realises that one of the people in the photo is himself. He looks at the back; it has an
address written on it. He thinks he should go to that address and see if they can help
him. He sleeps in the warehouse.

Chapter Three The next day he wakes up and he is really hungry. He has no food
or money on him. He doesnt know what to do. He decides that he should go to the
address. He starts walking and then realises that he doesnt know where hes going.
So he goes up to someone in the street and asks for directions. He starts on his way
when all of a sudden a car pulls up and pulls him in. A bag is thrown over his head
and his hands are tied. He has no idea what is going on and is petrified.

Chapter Four He is tied to a chair in a dimly lit room. A man walks in and starts
questioning him. His head is spinning and he has no idea what the man is asking him.
He pleads with him to help him and tells him that he cant remember who he is or
what is going on. The man doesnt believe him (So thats the game youre going to
play, is it?). He starts yelling about money (Wheres my money, Grey?). The man
realises that this is his last name and yells out Is that my name? Is that my name?
The other man says he is getting tired of this. Two other men come into the room
and start to torture him. He starts crying. He has no idea what is going on. He gets
locked in a small room with no windows.

Chapter Five After what seems like ages, the men come back into the room and ask
him if hes ready to tell them yet. He still has no idea whats going on and tries to tell
them but they wont listen. They drag him out of the room kicking and screaming.
They pin him up against a wall. All of a sudden the authorities burst into the building.
In the confusion he escapes. He runs and runs and finally seems to get far enough
away. He runs down a side road and collapses onto the floor. He lies there, shaking
for some time when he is found by a woman (Jacqui) who asks him whats wrong and
says that she should phone someone, maybe an ambulance or the police. When he
hears he say police he starts screaming. He begs her to help him. She takes him to
her flat.

Chapter Six She sits him down on the sofa and makes him a cup of tea but when
she comes back in the room he is asleep. She covers him with a blanket and leaves
him. When he wakes up it is the middle of the night. She is sitting in an arm chair
looking at him. She wants to know whats going on. He tells her everything. He
starts crying. She comforts him. She looks at the photo and says shell help him find
the address.
Chapter Seven The next morning, he has a shower and they eat breakfast together.
She says that she has to go to work but she promises that shell help him find the
address when she gets home. She tells him to stay in the flat and get some rest. She
says that her TV is broken. When she goes out he starts to look round her flat. He
looks at her photos and there are lots of her with a little boy. He looks at her calendar
in the kitchen and there is a date circled Matthew with me and another with
Matthew with Harry and he realises that she is divorced and that her son sometimes
lives with her and sometimes with her ex. Suddenly he has a flashback. He sees a
little girl crying. It makes him feel sick. He doesnt know who the girl is but she was
scared. He feels he needs some air and opens the window. Suddenly the phone goes
and he gets a fright. The answer phone picks it up its her son. Hes calling to tell
her that hes really excited about seeing her on Saturday. The man suddenly starts
feeling really ill and has to lie down on the sofa. He falls asleep.

Chapter Eight Jacqui comes home from work and says shell help him find the
address. They get in the car and type it into the sat nav. Its an hour away. She says
she doesnt mind she can see how much he needs her help and its not like she had
anything else to do anyway, and she did promise. On the journey he asks her about
her son. She tells him about her divorce. They have a long conversation. Then she
turns to him. They start to talk about what has happened to him. He starts to cry
softly. She says to him that everything will turn out ok. Itll all get sorted out. They
pull up to the address.

Chapter Nine He asks her to come up to the door with him. He starts shaking as he
nears the door. She holds his hand. He knocks on the door. The door opens and a
woman is standing there one of the women from the photo. She screams and tells
him to go away. They try to explain the situation but the woman shuts the door and
keeps screaming and tells them shes going to phone the police. Suddenly a man (also
from the photo) comes to the door to see whats going on (You!). He tells the
woman to phone the police. They run back to the car when the man comes out from
the house and grabs the man and starts to beat him up (This is for Summer and
Mandy!!!). Jacqui tries to help him. She pulls him into the car and drives off.

Chapter Ten She cleans up his bloody face (has a first aid kit because of her son).
They decide to go to a caf. He sits at a table while she goes to the toilet. She starts
to worry what shes got herself involved in. She decides that shes going to tell him
that shes sorry but hes on his own from now. While hes at the table, he can see a
TV. The news comes on. The headline is that a criminal is on the run. It is a man
called Christopher Grey who is involved with drug trafficking and who allegedly
murdered his wife and their five year old daughter whose bodies were found by the
wifes sister (show picture, ask for info, warn that he is a dangerous and violent
individual). They show a picture. Its him! He feels like hes going to be sick. He
goes outside and throws up. He hears sirens and hides behind the caf. He starts
running. Jacqui comes out of the toilet and is shocked to find him gone. She looks at
the TV which is still showing a photo of him and the news reporter says that his in-
laws have reported that he visited them only a few hours ago and that he has a female
accomplice with him who is believed to be Jacqueline Hart. They show a photo of
her. She runs out of the caf but hes gone. Suddenly the police arrive and arrest her.
Chapter Eleven In the police station, she is being questioned and she tells them
everything that has happened in the past day. They dont entirely believe her (Hes
fooling you) and tell her that theyve arrested the other men involved with the drugs
deal. They cannot charge her with anything so they let her go. Meanwhile, he has
been running for some time when he cant run anymore and he has to sit down. So he
sits on someones garden wall to rest. He decides that he has to go back to the address
and make them listen to him.

Chapter Twelve He goes back to the house. The police are interviewing them
inside. He sneaks into the alley way and waits for the police to leave. When theyve
gone, he goes up to the door and rings the doorbell. This time when the woman
answers, he sticks his foot in the door and forces his way in. The woman starts
screaming and her husband grabs him. He starts yelling at them to let him speak. He
begs them to listen to him. The man has him by the throat and is about to punch him
when he shouts out Im sorry! The couple look at each other. He is thrown onto the
sofa and the man tells him to talk and fast.

Chapter Thirteen He tells them his story and what he heard on the news. The
husband says he doesnt believe him but the wife disagrees. She tells him what he did
and shows him photos of his family. He cant believe what he has done. The husband
still doesnt believe him but the wife tells him to just look at him! Hes a nervous
wreck. He said sorry. The Christopher we knew was Suddenly the police arrive
outside (neighbours heard a disturbance). They try to make him stay so they can
explain everything to the police but he says they wont believe him. So he escapes
through the back door.

Chapter Fourteen He runs down the road and as he is running, he sees Jacqui
driving home. He runs over to the car; she brakes, almost hitting him. She winds
down the window and tells him to get lost shes had enough. She doesnt want
anything more to do with this. Its not fair. She has a son he needs her. She cant
be caught up in this. Then she stops and starts crying about the murders he
committed. She doesnt even know if hes told her the truth. He begs with her to
believe him and to help him the police are after him. She says maybe he should
give himself in. She lets him get in the car.

Chapter Fifteen They are driving along when suddenly a load of police cars come
from behind them. She speeds up but he tells her to stop. Its not fair for her to be
included in this. She swerves into a side road and says thank you. He jumps out of
the car and starts to run. The police pull into the side road and he speeds up. He
hides under a bridge. Suddenly he hears an announcement they have the bridge
surrounded. He can come out voluntarily or they will have to bring him out through
force. He steps forward. He falls to the floor and begins to shake. He wraps his arms
around his head. He begins to cry. The police come closer and see him shivering. A
policeman steps forward with handcuffs. He shakes even harder but does not resist.
When the first cuff is put on he lets out a muffled cry and then when the second one is
put on, yells out Im so sorry! He is forced to his feet and led to a police car. Jacqui
sees the whole thing and starts to cry.

Chapter Sixteen He is sitting in a court room. The air is stuffy and he is looking
solemnly at his feet. He is called to the stand. The eyes of the courtroom stare at him.
When asked how he pleads, he looks up despairingly and says I dont know. He tells
his whole story. He ends by bursting into tears and saying that whatever hes done
hes so sorry. The court is still. Various other witnesses are called including his in-
laws and Jacqui. The jury go into a separate room to deliberate.

Chapter Seventeen The jury spend over three hours deliberating. Their verdict is
guilty of both the count of drug trafficking and murder in the second degree (they
believe his claims of amnesia are false). He stares vacantly into space. The judge
looks at him. He says: I must disregard the jurys last comment, because I believe
that this man has indeed lost his memory. However, there is no telling whether or not
his memory will return in whole or in part, and in any case, in the interest of justice,
whether or not an individual has a recollection of the crime they have committed is
inconsequential to their prosecution. He sentences him to ten years for the drugs and
life with a minimum term of thirty years for the murders. Jacqui begins to cry. He is
led away and he turns to see his in-laws looking at the floor. They do not know what
to think. He then faints. The court gasps.

Chapter Eighteen Jacqui comes to visit him in prison with her son. He looks thin
and tired. He tells her that he feels sick whenever he thinks of what he did. He still
cant remember it. He cant imagine ever doing it, but he did it and therefore deserves
to be punished. Hes contemplated suicide but that would be the easy way out; he
needs to suffer for his sins. She visits him a few more times but he tells her that he
doesnt want her to anymore. He wants her to get on with her life and forget him. He
makes her promise that she wont come anymore.

Epilogue Thirty three years later, she is in her sixties. She reads in the newspaper
that he has died in prison aged seventy one of natural causes. He was found dead in
his cell one morning clutching a photo of himself, his wife and his in-laws. The
newspaper recounts the story and the prison workers say that he was very melancholic
and solitary and he would often have nightmares and would wake up in the middle of
the night screaming. One of the guards says he honestly believes he had no memory
of what he did, but the truth of it haunted him until he died. She sheds a tear.
