Medical Imaging Technologist

Medical imaging technologists is an important job in our world today, especially in the medical
field. Even though medical imaging techs do not help patients directly, they still play an
important role ion the medical field. This profession uses many information technology related
equipment ibn their day to day tasks.
A medical imaging technologists use high-tech equipment such as computerized axial
tomography's also known as CAT scans. Medical imaging techs take pictures of a patient's
internal organs and bones. These images help doctors to accurately diagnose their patients.
Besides actually producing images of patients, a medical imaging tech also prepares patients for
the x-ray and scans, prepares and maintain the equipment used, remove and process the film,
inputs data into a computer to document and specify scan sequences, adjust transmitters and
receivers and must know the difference between a normal image and an abnormal image.
Information technology is an important aspect of medical imaging, a medical imaging tech uses
information technology everyday at work. They use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),
sonography, mammography, ultrasounds and x-rays. Which help diagnose a problem in a
patient.
To become a medical imaging tech you must complete at least an Associates' degree
program and take courses in math, psychology, and human anatomy, physics and physiology
and English. After you must work towards being certified or licensed. To become certified you
must graduate from an accredited program and pass a certification exam. Depending on where
you live you might need to registered with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation
Technologists, if you live in New Brunswick being registered is a requirements for this career. If
you wish to advance you career in the future you should do a Bachelor's degree program. When
you first start your career as a medical imaging tech you typically earn $35,000 to $45,000
annually. With several years of experience as a medical imaging tech you can earn about
$50,000 to $70,000 every year. If you do further training and more education programs along
with having several years of experience you can become the chief or supervisor technologist
and earn $60,000 to $90, 00 each year.
In the future I believe that the need for this profession will go down a little bit because
technology will become more advanced and reduce the need for medical imaging techs but
would not eradicate them completely. Even though technology is becoming more advanced and
machines are replacing people in workplaces, I do not believe that in 100 years we would have
created technology that would completely eliminate the need for medical imaging techs.
Overall. The courses at Notre Dame that I can take to become a medical imaging tech would be
English, math, science, art, business, French, geography and physed in grade nine. In grade 10 it
is suggested you take English, math, science, civics and careers, introduction to computer
studies, business, and physed. For the eleventh grade it is recommended to take English, math,
probability and statistics, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, information and
communication technology and physed. In grade 12 you should take English, algebra and
geometry, calculus, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, computer engineering technology
(robotics and control systems) and physed to become a medical imaging tech.
A medical imaging technologist use information technology everyday at work, they use
CAT scans to MRIs. They earn a decent salary while indirectly helping people. This profession
has specific and sometimes complicated tasks and duties. As technology advances medical
imaging techs are still needed to play their role in the medical field. Medical imaging
technologist are an important job in the world today.
