Lesson idea implementation:


The teacher will introduce the study of American symbols using the BrainPop video, Abraham Lincoln. Prior
to displaying the video, the teacher will ask students questions about Abraham Lincoln Do you know who he
was? What information do you know about Abraham Lincoln? Why is he important in American History? Then
the teacher will ask students to remember one new fact about Abraham Lincoln after they view the video.
After viewing the video, students will be encouraged to share the new facts about Abraham Lincoln. The
teacher will list these facts on chart paper and/or the white board. If enough facts are not collected to match

the number of students in the class, the teacher will break students into small groups where they will re-visit
the video using the iPads. Each group will remember two more facts for the fact sheet.
Once complied, each student can select one of the facts about Abraham Lincoln. The teacher will record
each student telling their fact. The recoding will be finalized into a podcast and placed on the classroom blog
for others to enjoy.
Optional Extension: students will repeat the research process on a different American symbol. Using
another BrainPop video, students will create a podcast on that topic.
