For this lesson, chapter 6-7: Visual Arts will be used and incorporated. I will take into
consideration some of the activities/strategies given in the chapter and integrate them
into the lesson. On page 222, it discusses visual arts being an essential communication
tool. Words and ideas can be expressed through words or images and this lesson connects
the two. Students will be able to represent ideas through both word and non-word
communication.
For this lesson, I will use paper, pencils, markers/paint, the poem The Voice by Shel
Silverstein. All materials will be provided by HOST.
To being, I will read the poem Dirty Face by Shel Silverstein.
After, I will ask the group to take a moment to visualize in their heads the dirty face.
Students will then draw and color what they think the dirty face would look like.
Have a group discussion about the poem.
Once finished, Students will share with the group their drawings and explain the idea of
what they drew.
