Shakespeare is Magic, for He Shall be Continued to be Taught

Many people, especially students, think that William Shakespeare, as great as he is, isnt

useful in learning and they see him from a different perspective. All of the books youve read or

heard are most likely to talk about romance and drama (which Shakespeare has included in most

of his plays). 37 plays that have comedy, history, and tragedy and 154 sonnets being introduced

to the world of literature. The greatest plays include Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Othello and

Hamlet and they are still being read and taught. Shakespeare is relevant and should be continued

to be taught because hes very creative, complex, yet his work gets you attached, and he has been

know for over 450 years. Itd be a complete waste if we stopped.

Shakespeare doesnt seem to stop surprising me. The creativity of his stories and plays

that always talked about society/world problems itself. From Matthew Truesdales argument

piece, Why its Ridiculous Not to Teach Shakespeare in Schools, he answers to Dusbibers

claim of why Shakespeare shouldnt be taught. He uses the quote, Hamlet, Macbeth and Romeo

and Juliet have been staples of any high school English curriculum for years. What Truesdale

means is that all of these stories/plays have hold a symbolism of importance to others and that

were continued to be taught for a reason. For when Shakespeare wrote these stories, it filled our

minds, made people feel trapped into his his language and plots. Hes like no other writer and

1
hes managed to summarize our behaviors and emotions in a few sentences, enough to become

such beautiful language.

The creativity Shakespeare had lead us to think that even difficulties were included. By

then, it leads to why hes still relevant. Yet Shakespeare is very complicated in literature, its still

a way to teach us the way on how the history of literature developed. From other literatures to

Shakespeare, people are most likely to choose the basics instead of taking in a little challenge

from Shakespeares work. Others are making arguments of why he shouldnt be taught anymore

and that we should be allowed to read other literatures. The things is that it never was like that.

In fact, Truesdale mentioned that it never was restricted to read other literatures. According to

Truesdales argument, he questioned Ms. Dusbiber, asking, Also-Where does it say that we

cant teach Shakespeare and oral African tradition? Never has it been said that we couldnt read

both literatures. Its just stated that Shakespeare should still be taught in all schools because of

the way he teaches and how useful it is. From what made Shakespeares work seem difficult, it

symbolizes how much of a brilliant man he was. No one else has proven to be much better than

Shakespeare.

Shakespeare is a brilliant individual and hes proven us that many times. Just look at all

the stories and remakes of his work. Someone as powerful in writing as Shakespeare wont be

forgotten, even after 450 years. Some people, not satisfied enough, hold grudges against

Shakespeare because a waste of our time. Even teachers agree at a certain point that he

shouldnt be taught, saying that what Shakespeare wrote 450 years ago is not applicable to their

teachings today. Who knew that before development of literature would be so much better

without Shakespeare? Its not. You see, without him, most people really wouldnt know what

2
complicated is. Hes still brilliant because even when he lived up to more than 50 years, he still

created that many plays and sonnets even though the process to make them takes a while. Its

very shocking that even with such difficult tasks, he still possess a power to complete them and

make them amazing. With his themes of world problems, love, gender, society and drama, it

would make sense hes full of magic! Its that creativity of his stories and plays that matters. To

understand because theres no sign of rudimentary language.

Apparently, people think that what he has done 450 years ago should be stopped and take

no further notice. As a learner, Ive noticed that students (specifically teens) tend to show no

interest on Shakespeare because hes too complicated or that hes already dead and what he

teaches is boring. Well, considering that fact that those are the reasons, its regardless of whether

you agree or disagree with his work being taught. You cant really say that his work holds no

importance to English language or society. Even if Shakespeare is complicated in many ways,

his stories are deeply interesting, creative, and they still hold a role for importance. Once you get

past how they are written, youll understand what hes saying. Besides, doesnt it feel great when

you find out what one complicated quote means? Remakes were made, so it wouldnt be that

complicated to understand what it means.
