I wanted to produce a wall light consisting of a house in the middle of an autumnal
forest illuminated by multiple street lamps. I made tests with different components
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland and colours of foliage before going ahead and making most trees and bushes from
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe armatures and adding different hues of lichen and also wiring up tungsten model
railway lampposts.

The first challenge was to identify the necessary geometry to make the
mechanism of the rise and fall work correctly. From there I drew a 3D CAD model

I began by experimenting and formalising the design in SketchUp before making
the lit foam board model, which reassured me the idea worked well in real life
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland as well as on the computer. I decided to split the lamp into 8 segments t and
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe enhanced the idea of rough contrasting with warmth by mixing sand into the grey
paint on some surfaces and hand gilded the reflectors.

I built both chandeliers in tandem, section by section and had to create a pair
that matched overall which was challenging considering the organic nature of the
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland material. Each antler was sanded and bolted in position, 18 lights per chandelier
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe wired as I went. The final dimensions were 2.7m x 1.2m and this was my first big
project for the workshop.

I had an idea to embed LEDs inside a pair of opal oil lamps so the entire glass was
lit like a beacon. I chose the electronic components, designed and made the LED
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland assembly and turned the bases on the lathe. RAL colour spray paints finished off
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe the design and the final product uses only 3W of electricity.

A bespoke track lighting suspension light was being made for a client and I was
asked to test and time the proposed method for manufacture in brass. As a result
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland of this test, David and Rono Turner were able to reassess how to build the final
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe piece and this prototype was shown to the client to demonstrate the final look and
patina of the item.

For my dads 65th birthday I wanted to make him something special and like me,
hes a fan of Victorian architecture. Classical, Gothic and Romanesque elements
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland rub shoulders with an influence of Arts and crafts for good measure. Wood panels
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe were laser cut and saw/routered before being painted by hand. A stencil was laser
cut in Mylar to ensure the leaf decoration be accurate and neat.

I scaled overall dimensions from a photograph and after conferred with Rono
Turner and a colleague how best to go about constructing the lamp. I drew
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland the inner components in CAD, made a pattern for the curved back plate, and
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe suggested the choice of light source. I made all components including cutting,
rolling and spray painting the perforated steel sheet.

There is something unique about the town of Hastings; colourful, artistic, a bit
rough and wild. I decided to design a chandelier that was bright but utilitarian
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland enough to withstand the elements. The centrepiece is a jig wheel, hurricane
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe lanterns converted to take LED bulbs will have their glass sand blasted and the
metal spray painted. Sculptures by Anthony Caro informed my decision to use
primary colours.

This piece was created by an artist, but the end client wanted it to perform like an
Anglepoise. Each strut was covered in hundreds of tooth picks and became heavy.
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland This meant the handmade knuckle joints had to be very strong as well as look
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe elegant. This took lots of experimentation which was a good training ground for my
silver soldering, metal working and patination skills.

The starting point for this idea was the rusticated arch which can be seen all
over London. I copied the geometry from an example then added more details of
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland pediments, panelling and pedestal. I spray painted the parts in three shades of
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe green plus off white to give an overall impression of harmony and symmetry that
are hallmarks of Georgian design.

This is a good example of the miniature problem solving required on a regular basis
in the workshop. These one off plaster casts needed light sources hidden in the
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland small recesses to become wall lights so I designed and made brackets to then take
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe pygmy light bulbs.

These concept drawings are inspired by combining a building in Georgia with the
work of Gaetano Sciolari. I want to begin by designing a method of constructing
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland modules that can theoretically be combined in many combinations to create
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe architectonic forms with multiple LED light sources. This idea is one I am
considering developing if I get a place on the MA design course.

A development in Dreamland involved the restoration of a pair of original lamps
from the building and producing two identical copies. I was one of six people
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland involved in the manufacturing and the photos below highlight the tasks I was

completed by the workshop to date.

When I heard our next show would be Sci-Fi I started making maquettes of
potential illuminated breastplate and helmet designs and already had the first
St Pancras Penthouse Dreamland prototype of the Glove Lamp. My partner designed and made the costume for
Victorian Mirror Some Voices Across the Universe Major Tom and I designed and made the lighting elements as well as 18 pairs of
gloves for the main choir.
