1. Cuticle-or the outermost layer of the hair protects the inner cortex layer. Is it made up of
flattened horny cells.
2. Cortex-it is made up of fiber like cells that give hair strength, elasticity, pliability and texture of
the hair. It contains pigment called MELANIN, which gives its natural color.
3. Medulla-the center of each hair consists of very sof keratin cells interspersed with spaces.

The Hair Natural shine is supplied by its own conditioner called sebum, an oil composed of waxes and
fats. The study of hair technically called TRICHOLOGY. The Hair is the appendage of the skin. Hair is
made up of strong elastic strands of protein called KERATIN. The ROOT is the only living part of the hair.
Dermal Papilla lies snugly below the surface of the scalp.
Hair definition and technical terms:
CAPILI- the HEAD, CILIA-the EYELASHES, SUPERCELIA- the EYEBROWS, BARBA- the FACE
ALBINO- is a person born with white hair, the result of an absence of coloring matter in the hair shaf.
DIRECTION OF HAIR GROWTH:
Hair stream- Hair is an area sloping in the same directions is known as a HAIR STREAM.
Whorl -hair which forms in a swirl effect, as in the crown is called WHORL.
Cowlick-a tuf hair standing up is known as COWLICK.
