2C. A transformer has no-load loss of 55 W when primary voltage is 250 V of frequency
50 Hz and the no-load loss of 41 W when the primary voltage is 200 V of frequency
40 Hz. Determine hysterisis and eddy current losses at 50 Hz. (03)

3A. What is an induction generator? Why it is not proffered for generation of bulk power.
(02)
3B. Calculate efficiency and voltage regulation when supplying full-load secondary
current at power factors i) UPF ii) 0.8 lag for a 4 kVA, 200 / 400 V single phase
transformer. The following are the test results: O.C. with 200 V applied to LV side,
0.8 A, 70 W; S.C. with 20 V applied to HV side, 10 A, 60 W. (05)
3C. A 10 pole 50 Hz slip ring induction motor runs at 580 RPM on full load. The rotor
resistance per phase is 0.3 . Calculate the additional resistance per phase to be
inserted in the rotor circuit if the speed is to be reduced to 500 RPM for full load
torque. (03)

4A. Two, single phase furnaces I and II are supplied at 80 V by means of Scott connected
transformers from a 3-phase 6600V supply. The furnace I is supplied from teaser

4B. Two transformers A and B are connected in parallel to a load of (2 + j1.5) . The
equivalent impedance of transformers referred to their secondary are (0.15 + j0.5)
and (0.1 + j0.6) respectively. Their no load terminal voltages are respectively 205
and 207 Volts. Find (i) Load terminal voltage (ii) Power output and power factor of
each transformer (iii) KVA load shared by each transformer (iv) Circulating current
on no load. (06)

5A. Draw and explain the torque-slip characteristic of a 3-phase induction motor. Also
explain the effect of rotor resistance on torque slip characteristics. (04)
5B. For a 6 pole 3 phase Induction motor has mechanical losses total 2 HP at a speed of
950 RPM on 550 V, 50 Hz mains. The power factor is 0.88. Calculate for this load
