CHED-CBIE Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Canada

OVERVIEW

The CHED-CBIE Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Canada is a scholarship program


designed for faculty and non-teaching staff of Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

This program will bring twenty Filipino scholars to Canadian institutions for a one (1) year
period, starting in September 2017, to study at a Doctoral or Masters Level.

The program is entirely funded by the Commission on Higher Education, which has
entrusted the management of the program to the Canadian Bureau for International
Education.

Objective

The objective of the CHED-CBIE Scholarship for Graduate Studies in Canada is to prepare
these scholars for academic positions, educational leadership, research, policy formulation
and teacher training in the Philippines upon completion of the program.

The scholars are expected to return to the Philippines and implement meaningful programs
in relation to their acquired knowledge and skills from their study in Canada for the
development of their respective HEIs.

Eligibility

Candidates for the scholarship shall possess the following in order to be eligible to avail the
scholarship grant:

A. Must be a Filipino citizen;


B. Hold at least bachelors degree (for applicants to masters degree programs) or a
masters degree (for applicants to doctoral degree programs) relevant to the graduate
degree being sought;
C. Demonstrate strong academic record;
D. Be in good health and of good moral character;
E. Have no pending criminal charges, and must not have been convicted for violation of
any Philippine Law; and
F. Fulfill all the Terms and Conditions of the grant, including a return service obligation.

Application Process

STEP 1

Interested faculty and staff shall email CHEDScholarshipsCanada@cbie.ca


following the recommended Subject format:
APPLICATION_LastName,FirstName_CHEDCBIE

Attached in the email are the following application documents:


1. Curriculum Vitae
2. Accomplished Re-entry Action Plan (REAP)
3. One Letter of Reference (from School Head)
4. Signed and Notarized Return Service Agreement (RSA)*

*The Return Service Agreement (RSA) can be submitted on a later date.


However, the status of your application will remain as "provisional" until the you
have submitted to CHEDScholarshipsCanada@cbie.ca your signed and
notarized RSA.

STEP 2

Upon submission of your application documents, you will be given a link


through an email to accomplish an Online Application Form. Upon completion
of the Online Application Form, you will be notified of the receipt and status of
your application to the CBIE-CHED Scholarship for Graduates Studies in
Canada.

Interested faculty and staff are given until 5:00 PM (GMT+8) of April 21, 2017
to accomplish the requirements needed for the application.

Selection Process

Selected scholars will be notified on May 3rd, 2017.


Upon selection, scholars will be required to register with CBIEs scholarship database and to
upload the following documents:
- Original Undergraduate or Masters transcript and completion certificate
- Minimum two letters of recommendation
- A statement confirming research interest
- A curriculum vitae
- Original copy of TOEFL or other English proficiency score
- A copy of the passport clearly showing name, date of birth, number
- Completed and signed CBIE Consent to release Academic Information form (found
here)
- Letter of support by current supervisor (PhD only)
- Pre-approved workplan for studies (PhD only)
