1.4 Access Rights

It is necessary to have access to registry and Program Files directory to be able to perform the
installation of Inspire Designer as well as of HASP Device Driver or HASP License Manager if
you use HW licensing method. So, it is recommended to run the installation from a user account
that has the access level set to Administrator (local administrator on the computer). You can
check this in Control Panel | User Accounts | Manage User Accounts.

To run Inspire Designer it is sufficient to use a Standard user account. However, if related ap-
plications such as Inspire Production Server or Inspire Content Manager (VCS) Server are used
and they were installed to a directory where the user does not have access rights to (e.g.
c:\Program Files), it is recommended to run the applications with the parameter overriding the

6
2 Licensing

temp directory path (e.g. PNetTNetServer.exe -tempdir d:\NetServerTemp), or

to grant the user the access rights to the directory.

For example if installing on a server in a server room you cannot access, it is possible to install
Inspire Designer over terminal services. Go to Start Menu | All Programs | Accessories | Re-
mote Desktop Connection.

2 Licensing
Inspire Designer application can be licensed using any of the following license types:

Net license

SW license

Demo license

HW (dongle) license

Basic information on how to set up each licensing method are provided. For more information
about the characteristics, advantages and limitations of each type and troubleshooting please
see the Public Licensing Guide document.

2.1 Net Licenses

Net licensing is the preferred licensing method. It should be used instead of HW licensing for
all network licensing purposes. When Net licensing is employed, Inspire Content Manager (VCS)
must be used as a license manager, i.e. GMC License Manager.

Before you start installing Inspire Designer and licensing it by the Net licensing method, you
should know the following:

The License ID of the server (according to the HW and SW requirements) where GMC
License Manager will be running.

Use the GetLicID tool to find out the License ID.

Have a HASP HL Dongle, if it will be used together with Net license (in case of volume
limitation, virtual machine environment).

Ask the Support team to generate an ls.lic license file for the License ID and optionally
the dongle ID.

7
2 Licensing

To set up Net license for a new installation on the server with GMC License Manager, do the
following:

1. Select Net licensing in the License dialog during Inspire Designer installation.

2. Select Install GMC License Manager on this server and browse for the ls.lic file in the
Net License Parameters dialog.

3. If dongle is used, install HASP Device Driver. The installer is placed to the installation
folder and Start Menu for all options of the License dialog except for Software licensing.
The dongle must be connected to the licensing server, on which the GMC License
Manager is running. (The HASP License Manager cannot work together with Net li-
censes.)

To set up Net license for a new installation on the other computers, do the following:

1. Select Net licensing in the License dialog during Inspire Designer installation.

2. Select GMC License Manager installed on another server and specify the name of the
licensing server in the Net License Parameters dialog.

For more information please see the Public Licensing Guide document.

2.2 SW Licenses
Software licensing is performed using a PNetT.lic file. It is always created for a specific License
ID (or more License IDs).

Before you start installing Inspire Designer and licensing it by the SW licensing method, you
should know the following:

The License IDs of all computers (according to the HW and SW requirements) on which
you will perform the installation.

Use the GetLicID tool to find out the License IDs of the computers.

Ask the Support team to generate a PNetT.lic license file for the License IDs. There can
be created just one PNetT.lic file for all License IDs.

To set up SW license for a new installation (any computer as there is no licensing server), select
Software licensing in the License dialog during Inspire Designer installation.

For more information please see the Public Licensing Guide document.

2.3 Demo Licenses

Demo licensing is performed using a demo PNetT.lic file.

Select Demo licensing in the License dialog during Inspire Designer installation and the in-built
demo license file will be used.

For more information please see the Public Licensing Guide document.

8
2 Licensing

2.4 HW (Dongle) Licenses

Note For new installations, the Hardware licensing is not preferred as the licensing method
and should be replaced by Net licensing.

Hardware licensing is performed using an Aladdin HASP dongle and a PNetT.lic file.

Before you start installing Inspire Designer and licensing it by the HW licensing method, you
should know the following:

Have a HASP HL Dongle and know the dongle ID.

Ask the Support team to generate a PNetT.lic license file for the dongle ID.

To set up HW license for a new installation on the server with dongle, do the following:

1. Select Hardware licensing dongle connected to this computer in the License dialog
during Inspire Designer installation on the server which will be the licensing server, i.e.
the dongle will be connected to it.

2. Select Launch HASP License Manager installation and browse for the PNetT.lic file in
the Specify Local Hardware License Parameters dialog.

The installation of HASP License Manager starts automatically after the Inspire Designer
installation ends and then continues with HASP Device Driver installation. Both installers
(of HASP Device Driver and License Manager) are added to the Inspire Designer install-
ation folder and Start Menu.

Note Make sure you install the HASP License Manager only on the licensing server,
i.e. to which the dongle will be connected.

3. Run Inspire Designer so that the PNetT.lic license file updates the dongle.

To set up HW license for a new installation on the other computers, do the following:

1. Select Hardware licensing dongle connected to another computer in the License

dialog during Inspire Designer installation.

2. Browse for the PNetT.lic file and specify the name of the licensing server in the Specify
Server Hardware License Parameters dialog.

Enable the nethasp.ini file creation suggested in this dialog to prevent licensing issues,
when the following conditions are met:

hardware licensing is used,

the dongle is not connected to the local machine, but to the server, and

a firewall is enabled.

For more information please see the Public Licensing Guide document.

3 Temp Files

2.5 GetLicID & GetHostnameID Tools

GetLicID and GetHostnameID are standalone tools that are distributed separately and provide
the IDs necessary for SW and Net licensing.

The GetLicID tool retrieves a License ID based on the computer where it is installed (and the
GMC applications will be installed). This is the preferred type of License ID.

The GetHostnameID tool retrieves a License ID based on the hostname of the computer. It is
intended to be used in cases where virtual machine software (e.g. VMware) is employed as the
environment where applications are installed. It can also be used in other cases where the
hardware is required to change, e.g. for failover solutions.

To use either of these tools:

1. Unpack the files (GetLicID.cmd/GetHostnameID.cmd, LicApp.exe and PNetT.lic) into a

directory.

2. Double-click on the CMD file and the ID will be displayed.

3 Temp Files
GMC software applications create temp files and licensing information in the computer registry.
In rare cases, a security policy may have dictated that user permissions were enhanced to forbid
writing to the registry and the application will fail.

The registry location used by GMC applications is \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Chimenix

and all users must have write permissions to this part of the registry.

4 Installing Inspire Designer

4.1 Installing Inspire Designer on the Server
To install Inspire Designer locally or on a server (to which workstations can be connected),
double-click on the appropriate Inspire Designer installer:

Setup-Inspire-Designer-*-32.exe The installer for 32-bit computers.

Setup-Inspire-Designer-*-64.exe The installer for 64-bit computers.

The installation procedure of the 64-bit version of Inspire Designer is much the same as for the
32-bit version. The only differences are that the files have 64 at the end of the name, i.e. Setup-

10
4 Installing Inspire Designer

Inspire-Designer-*-64.exe and that you have to confirm the installation of Microsoft Visual C++
2008 during the installation process (while with 32-bit the installation of 2005 version runs as
a part of the Inspire Designer installation).

Tip Check the related release notes for limitations of the 64-bit version before the installation.

Server Installation Procedure

1. At first the Inspire Designer Setup wizard appears. Click on the Next button and the
wizard will guide you through the process of installation.

Note If the installer detects that the operating system on the computer is not suppor-
ted, it displays a warning message. It is possible to continue with installation, but as
the correct functionality is not guaranteed, it cannot be recommended.

2. The next dialog displays the End-User software license agreement. It is necessary to
accept the terms in the License Agreement in order the installation can continue. To
do this, select the option I accept the terms in the License Agreement.

played:

This dialog is only displayed when Net licensing has been chosen in the License
dialog.

GMC License Manager installed on another server You can specify the
server, on which the GMC License Manager is / will be running (i.e. the licens-
ing server). Two entries will be added to the PNetT.config file which will be
automatically created in the installation folder: <CX_LICENSE>LS</CX_LI-
CENSE> and <CX_LIC_SERVER>server_name</CX_LIC_SERVER>.

Note If created manually (e.g. in Notepad), the content of the PNetT.config

file is the following:

<Config>
<CX_LICENSE>LS</CX_LICENSE>
<CX_LIC_SERVER>SERVERNAME</CX_LIC_SERVER>
</Config>

Install GMC License Manager on this server Choose this option if you are
installing Inspire Designer on the server which will be the licensing server at
the same time. GMC License Manager will be installed, i.e. PNetTVCS.exe in-
stalled as a service for the purpose of Net licensing.

Specify the license file name in the edit field below Enter here the ls.lic file
location.

Specify the service name Enter here the name under which the GMC License
Manager service should be running.

Specify the service port Enter here the port used by the GMC License Manager
service.

13
4 Installing Inspire Designer

This dialog is displayed only when Hardware licensing dongle connected to

this computer has been chosen in the License dialog.

It consists of two parts:

Additional license file In addition to a dongle you can have a license file con-
taining additional license information that cannot be stored in the dongle itself.
If you want to use such a file, type the path to it in the top edit field and it
will be copied to the directory with the executables.

HASP application section

No HASP application installation The installers of HASP Device Driver and

License Manager are added to the Inspire Designer installation folder and
Start Menu, but not run after the Inspire Designer installation ends.

Launch HASP Device Driver installation The installation of HASP Device

Driver starts automatically after the Inspire Designer installation ends.
Both installers (of HASP Device Driver and License Manager) are added
to the Inspire Designer installation folder and Start Menu.

Launch HASP License Manager installation The installation of HASP Li-

cense Manager starts automatically after the Inspire Designer installation
ends and then continues with HASP Device Driver installation. Both in-
stallers (of HASP Device Driver and License Manager) are added to the
Inspire Designer installation folder and Start Menu.

Note For all options except Software licensing, installers of HASP utilities (HASP
Device Driver and HASP License Manager) will be automatically copied (but not
installed) into selected installation directory and shortcuts to the installers will be
placed into Start Menu (i.e. even if you do not install the necessary HASP utility
during the Inspire Designer installation, you can still run it later from Start menu).

14
4 Installing Inspire Designer

This dialog is only displayed when the option Hardware licensing dongle
connected to another computer in the network has been chosen in the License
dialog.

It consists of two parts:

Additional license file In addition to a dongle you can have a license file con-
taining additional license information that cannot be stored in the dongle itself.
If you want to use such a file, type the path to it in the top edit field and it
will be copied to the directory with the executables.

Creating a nethasp.ini file If the dongle is not used locally but is connected to
a licensing server, it is necessary to have a nethasp.ini file (preferably in Win-
dows\System32 or Windows directory) on the local computer so that Inspire De-
signer can locate the licensing server.

Note If an already existing nethasp.ini file is detected, either in Windows/Sys-

tem32 or Windows directory, the installer offers you the possibility to change
the entries in it. You will see the option Update already existing nethasp.ini
and you will be able to enter the licensing server name or IP address in the
edit field.

6. Optional step the Common Files Installation Mode dialog only appears when the
CX_DATA system environment variable is set.

The CX_DATA system environment variable defines a directory containing the Adobe
PDF plugin files, icudt*.dat file (conversion tables, locales etc.), help files and other
complementary files.

It is recommended to set the CX_DATA when adding a new version of Inspire Designer
or when other GMC applications will be installed on the same computer and will use
Inspire Designer as a part of a solution.

When this variable is NOT detected, the installer skips this page and the default install-
ation folder containing PNetT.exe file is used.

15
4 Installing Inspire Designer

16
4 Installing Inspire Designer

7. The Components dialog appears, enabling you to check the Inspire Designer features
that you want to install.

Program Files This group lists program files divided in two groups: the core program
files and network related program files.

Core Program Files (Required) Copies all of the PNetT.exe, PNetTC.exe

and PNetTVCS.exe executable files and all of the redistribute files needed for
the correct, basic functionality.

Inspire Production Server, NetClient and CNetClient Files Contains

items related to the network usage: PNetTNetServer.exe, PNetTNetClient.exe
and PNetTCNetClient.exe.

Inspire Production Server Installation as a Service When checked it shows the

Set Inspire Production Server Service Parameters dialog and installs the PNetTNet-
Server.exe as a Windows service using the specified parameters. This option should
be used if Inspire Production Server is intended to be used for production (not for
web products).

Note You can run the Inspire Production Server as a service manually after the
file is copied to the installation folder.

Inspire Production Server for Web Installation as a Service When checked it

shows the Set Inspire Production Server Service Parameters dialog and installs the
PNetTNetServer.exe as a Windows service using the specified parameters and the
-runforweb parameter. This option should be used if Inspire Production Server
is intended to be used for web products (not for production). The required licence
for the Inspire Production Server is limited for web products.

Note You can run the Inspire Production Server as a service manually after the
file is copied to the installation folder.

Inspire Content Manager Installation as a Service When checked it shows the

Inspire Content Manager (VCS) Service Parameters dialog, where you enter the

17
4 Installing Inspire Designer

name and port for the service, and installs the PNetTVCS.exe as a Windows service
using the specified parameters. This option can be used if you intend to use Inspire
Content Manager with the Inspire Data Center (Repositories) functionality.

Note Remember to enable the port number(s) in the firewall after the installation
is finished.

You can run the Inspire Production Server as a service manually after the file is
copied to the installation folder.

Adobe PDF Library and Adobe Normalizer The Adobe PDF plugin files enable In-
spire Designer to process EPS and PDF images.

Supplementary Applications Contains applications related to Inspire Designer.

IPDS Drivers Installers If selected, the drivers installers are added to the 'IPDS' folder
in the Inspire Designer installation folder and the Start menu. You can install them
after the Inspire Designer installation is finished.

signer functionality, Inspire Designer Release Notes (in PDF format) and Getting
Started documents including the localized versions (in PDF format).

Optional shortcuts Places selected shortcuts to the Inspire Designer start menu or
on the desktop.

Association of workflow files Associates workflow files (the files with WFD exten-
sion) with the currently installed version of Inspire Designer. It is possible to run
WFD files by double-clicking on them.

Additional older vcredist version Check this option if you intend to use External
Data Input module. An additional vcredist will be installed so that External Data
Input samples that can be provided on request work correctly.

8. Optional step based on the selection in the previous step.

18
4 Installing Inspire Designer

This dialog appears only if either Inspire Production Server Installation as a Service
or Inspire Production Server for Web Installation as a Service was selected in
the Components dialog.

It allows to choose between two installation modes of Inspire Production Server as a

service.

Install the Inspire Production Server with the default parameters When chosen,
it will install the Inspire Production Server as a service using the default values:
port number 30354 and name of the service set to PNetTNetServer.

Install the Inspire Production Server with overridden parameters When selected,
it is possible to change the default parameters. In this case, you can specify another
Port number and/or Service name.

Note

Installing as a service requires that the port number set for the Inspire Production
Server application must not be used by any other application or service (e.g. an
already installed Inspire Production Server), otherwise the installation of the service
fails.

To check for services that might be in conflict, click on the Display Services
Manager button it launches the Windows Services list so you can look for any
already installed Inspire Production Servers or other services that could occupy the
selected port number.

If you have selected both Inspire Production Server Installation as a Service

and Inspire Production Server for Web Installation as a Service in the pre-

19
4 Installing Inspire Designer

vious dialog, it is necessary to change the parameters for one of the Inspire Produc-
tion Servers as they cannot run with the same name and on the same port.

Remember to enable the port number(s) in the firewall after the installation is fin-
ished.

During installation, the uninstall.info file is created. It stores information about the
installed Inspire Production Server for the uninstallation purposes.

9. In the next dialog you can change the Start Menu folder name.

If you do not wish to create shortcuts in the Start Menu, check the check-box below
the list.

20
4 Installing Inspire Designer

10. In the next dialog you can change the installation path:

After clicking on Install, the next dialog will show you the progress of the installation.
When the installation finishes click on the Next button and the Finish up dialog inform-
ing you that the application has been successfully installed is displayed.

Click on Finish to complete the installation.

4.2 Installing Inspire Designer on the

Workstation
The workstation installer creates links to the PNetT.exe file. They are created with the -c
parameter pointing to a temporary directory so that configuration and cache files are not
written to the server folder.

Before you install Inspire Designer on the workstation it is necessary to share the Inspire Designer
server directory to enable access to it from other computers. To enable sharing, right-click on
the folder where Inspire Designer is installed on the server, select Properties in the context
menu and make the settings on the Sharing tab.

To perform the workstation installation you can use either:

full installer, i.e. the workstation installer is a part of the full installer, or

workstation-only installer (this is a ~70 kB installer for an easier distribution).

21
4 Installing Inspire Designer

Note If a 64-bit full installation is on the server and a 32-bit workstation installation (i.e. a
link to Inspire Designer on the server) is on a 32-bit client, it is not possible to use Inspire De-
signer on the client. There are two possible workarounds:

Install Inspire Designer in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions on the 64-bit server in separate
directories, allowing the server to use the 64-bit code and the workstation clients to
use the 32-bit directory code.

Install the 64-bit application on the server and full 32-bit applications on PCs (worksta-
tions). The 64-bit application has to be allowed in the LIC file so it can be used by the
server and PCs without any limitation or problems.

Workstation Installation Procedure

1. After the introduction dialog you should specify the location of the Inspire Designer
installation on the server. Point to the target directory that contains the PNetT.exe file
by typing the path into the edit field, e.g. \\serverName\InspD\ if the directory on the
server is shared as 'InspD'.

Alternatively, you can browse for a location by clicking on the Browse button.

22
4 Installing Inspire Designer

Tip If you specify an UNC folder (e.g. \\serverName\InspD), you must append a
backslash character ( \ ) at the end of the directory name in the edit field.

2. In the next dialog choose the type of licensing.

No licensing Choose this option if you want to handle the licensing manually after
installation or want to keep current licensing (e.g. when upgrading an already li-
censed Inspire Designer installation) or the licensing is solved on the server side
only.

Net licensing Choose this option if you are to use Net licensing. In the Server
hostname you can specify the server, on which the GMC License Manager is
running (i.e. the licensing server). Two entries will be added to the PNetT.config
file which will be automatically created in the installation folder: <CX_LI-
CENSE>LS</CX_LICENSE> and <CX_LIC_SERVER>server_name</CX_LIC_SERVER>.

Note If you use HW licensing and PNetT.lic is a necessary part of it (i.e. you have the
options such as time limitation, license caption, languages etc. enabled, the PNetT.lic
file has to be placed on the workstation as well. For more information please see the
Public Licensing Guide document.

3. The Components dialog opens next. Select the components that you wish to install.

4. Then choose a name for the Start menu folder.

5. Click on Install to complete the installation.

5 Upgrading from a Previous Version

5 Upgrading from a Previous

Version
When upgrading a server installation, you can choose whether you want to:

have two or more concurrently installed instances of Inspire Designer (i.e. add a new
version of Inspire Designer while maintaining the functionality of the existing installation),
or

keep one instance of Inspire Designer only (i.e. replace the current installation by a new
one).

When upgrading a workstation installation, use the workstation installer to create links to the
new version.

5.1 Adding a New Version

It is possible to have more Inspire Designer instances installed on one machine:

It is recommended to set the CX_DATA environment variable (that enables to store

certain Inspire Designer files in one shared folder to save disk space) before the install-
ation of the concurrent Inspire Designer instances.

Stop all currently running Inspire Designer instances (incl. Inspire Content Manager and
Inspire Production Server services) to enable the update of the shared CX_DATA files.

It is necessary to set a unique target folder for each Inspire Designer instance (so the
executable files are not overwritten) as well as a unique folder for Start Menu items.

Note If there is more than one version, the uninstall link in Control Panel | Programs and
Features dialog points to the uninstaller of the version that was installed most recently.

In the case that you would like to uninstall a previously installed version, you can run the unin-
staller (uninstall.exe file) manually, directly from the installation directory of the appropriate
Inspire Designer version.

24
5 Upgrading from a Previous Version

5.2 Replacing the Installed Inspire Designer

Version by a New One
If you only want to use one version of Inspire Designer, there are two possible ways of replacing
the installed version by a new one:

1. Uninstallation and new installation:

Stop all running Inspire Designer instances (incl. Inspire Content Manager and Inspire
Production Server services).

Uninstall the existing version (using the uninstall link in Control Panel | Programs
and Features dialog).

Install the new version using the new installer.

Pros: The existing installation is removed completely, including the complete content
of the installation folder if you choose so, Start menu links, Desktop icons and entries
stored in the registry.

Cons: The complete installation folder gets deleted, including all configuration files.

2. The alternative way of replacing the existing installation is to install the new version
without uninstalling the existing one first. This can be useful for upgrade of version
with the same base number (e.g. 7.0 build, upgrading 7.0.29 beta to 7.0.42 GA). In
this case be sure to:

Stop or uninstall existing Inspire Content Manager and Inspire Production Server
instances.

Select the same installation folder and Start menu folder as were set during install-
ation of the previous version, in order to overwrite the files from the previous version
by the new ones.

Pros: This way the folder structure and current settings (stored in PNetT.cfg file, option-
ally in other CONFIG files too) will be preserved.

Cons: If the target folder (resp. Start menu folder) differs from the folder that was set
during the installation of the previous version, the content of the folders, where the
previous installation was installed, is not replaced and occupies the disk space.

Troubleshooting
6.1 Setting the Production Mode Type
You can set the level of control that other people have over workflows at the production stage
(e.g. staff that work in production only) by adding one of the command line parameters to
PNetT.exe when running it. There are two options:

Simple Production Mode PNetT.exe sp

The Production window will consist of Driver and Job toolbars, an information area at the
top of the window and a message area in the bottom part of the window.

Production staff will be able to control engine and driver functions, but will not be able
to alter jobs. (For example, the Simple mode does not allow you to print by Print User
Group.)

Advanced Production Mode PNetT.exe ap

Production staff will have full control over print functions. The Production Window will
be identical to what is displayed in Inspire Designer, but without the access to the Layout
or Workflow windows.

Note For details about operating the different Production modes, refer to the Inspire Designer
User Manual.

6.2 Inspire Content Manager

The Inspire Content Manager is installed as part of the Inspire Designer installation.

It can be also optionally installed as a service during the installation.

Running Inspire Content Manager as Application

For testing purposes, the PNetTVCS.exe can be started from the Inspire Designer installation
folder by double-clicking on the PNetTVCS.exe file.

Before you start the Inspire Content Manager server for the first time, it is recommended to
review the available command line parameters.

26
6 Post Installation Steps and Troubleshooting

To do this:

1. Open a command shell.

2. Enter the directory where Inspire Designer has been installed.

3. At the command prompt, issue the command PNetTVCS.exe h. The following

screen displays.

Note If you have a server running a RAID disk array or if you do not want to have all of the
repository data within the program directory, have the Inspire Content Manager start on a
different drive and/or with a different directory path to keep the Inspire Content Manager re-
pository.

To do this, open a command shell from the Inspire Designer directory path and type in the
command PNetTVCS.exe dir C:\PNetTVCS Storage (or any location suitable for
storing the content of the Inspire Content Manager).

The default port that the Inspire Content Manager listens to is 30353. You may choose any
unused port, but the default one will be suitable in most cases. If the Inspire Content Manager
has to communicate on a different port, use the option -p {port number} on the Inspire Content
Manager start parameters.

Remember to enable the port number(s) in the firewall after the installation is finished.

It is not necessary to operate the Inspire Content Manager application window as long as you
are working with the Inspire Content Manager.

To stop the Inspire Content Manager, type q at the prompt of the Inspire Content Manager
console.

To automatically start the Inspire Content Manager Server at start-up, add a batch file including
the necessary parameters to a startup folder on your server.

6 Post Installation Steps and Troubleshooting

Running Inspire Content Manager as a Windows Service

Inspire Content Manager server can run as a Windows service i.e., Inspire Content Manager
can be running automatically even when no user is logged in the Windows.

You can start Inspire Content Manager running as a Windows service by using the -i parameter:

Note License manager is not running. Only informative note. PNetTVCS.exe was installed
as a Inspire Content Manager service, not as GMC License Manager service.

Cannot find EMC Documentum library. Only informative note. It is displayed if you do not
use EMC Documentum library with Inspire Content Manager.
If you need to run more services, you will have to specify a unique name for each one of them
using the parameter -override_name.

Uninstall (i.e., stop) the Inspire Content Manager running as a service using the u parameter:

You can monitor the service via Computer Management | Services and Applications |
Services | PNetTVCS. The Computer Management dialog is accessible by right-clicking on the
Computer item in Start Menu and by selecting the Manage option in the context menu.

When Inspire Content Manager is running as a Windows service, log files are stored in the
System32 directory.

Running Inspire Content Manager on a Database

To run Inspire Content Manager on a database, launch Inspire Content Manager with the
parameter -connectstring specifying the connection string to your database (this parameter
is mandatory). There are other (optional) parameters available allowing you to set table name
and database type, to run two or more Inspire Content Manager servers on one database or
import file repositories. See the Inspire Designer User Manual, section Inspire Content Manager
Server Management for more information about the parameters. In the below command line
example Inspire Content Manager server is run on a specified MySQL database and the possib-
ility to run more than one server on this database is enabled:

C:\Program Files\GMC\Inspire Designer\PNetTVCS.exe -connectstring CONNECTION

STRING -dbtype MySQL -shareable

It can be also optionally installed as a service during the installation.

For testing purposes, the PNetTNetServer.exe can be started from the Inspire Designer installation
folder by double-clicking the PNetTNetServer.exe file.

Before you start the Inspire Production Server for the first time, it is recommended that you
review the available command line parameters.

To do this:

1. Open a command shell.

2. Enter the directory where Inspire Designer has been installed.

3. At the command prompt, issue the command PNetTNetServer.exe h. The fol-

lowing screen displays:

The Inspire Production Server functions like a "remote console of Inspire Designer"; i.e. it runs
on a server with an IP address and listens to a port. The server can be started either as an ap-
plication or as a service. You can connect to the server and control it by sending commands
to it.

Starting Inspire Production Server

The server file name is PNetTNetServer.exe. By default, it is located in the Inspire Designer dir-
ectory. Running the PNetTNetServer.exe file starts the server. By default (when no p parameter
is specified), the server starts monitoring port 30354 and waits for connections.

Remember to enable the port number(s) in the firewall after the installation is finished.

6.4 Adding Port in Firewall

If you use Inspire Content Manager or Inspire Production Server, the ports used for them must
be enabled in the firewall. It is recommended to ask the network administrator to do so.

As local administrator on the local computer you can add them in Control Panel | Security |
Allow a program through Windows Firewall | Add port.

6.5 SAP Registration

If you will be using the SAP Data Input module to connect with SAP data systems, you must
register with the SAP company.

30
6 Post Installation Steps and Troubleshooting

Requirements
Installed Inspire Designer.

Connection details for the system landscape directory (SLD) of your SAP Solution Man-
ager, from your company's SAP administrator:

URL path to the SLD host or IP Address of the computer where the SLD application
is installed.

Port number for communication with the SLD application.

SLD user's name and password.

Registration
1. Open the workflow file SAPregistration.wfd in Inspire Designer.

You will find this file in the Inspire Designer installation directory. There are three
modules already configured which are displayed in the Workflow window of Designer
once the workflow has been opened.

2. Open the Param Input module (it is blue and is the first module on the left).

3. Fill in your companys name and the SLD connection details (i.e. URL, Port, User and
Password) in the Default column (furthest column to the right).

A URL path should be without http:// at the beginning. Do not edit any of the other
columns in this module.

4. Click on OK to close the module.

5. Click on the Proof icon in the Workflow Window toolbar (at the top of the window).

Alternatively, you can press the proofing shortcut key <F6>.

The Sheet Proof window will open and a successful registration will be confirmed with
the text: "Your SAP application is successfully registered." In case of problems, follow
any instructions displayed in the Sheet Proof window.

6 Post Installation Steps and Troubleshooting

6.6 DirecType Library Installation

To install the new version of the DirecType library, copy the folder with the new library version
to the DirecType folder. This is found inside the folder, to which the CX_DATA variable is refer-
ring or where Inspire Designer is installed.

Please note that the DirecType plugin is licensed separately from Inspire Designer. The license
provided by the Inspire Designer installer (dtlicense.ini file in the DirecType directory) is only a
demo license. With this demo license, the image will be displayed with a watermark reading
DirecType. The full license can be obtained from DirecType and the licence file must be
copied into the DirecType directory.

6.7 TNO Writer Installation

If you want to use the TNO virtual printer see the separate document TNO Writer Installation
Guide for more instructions. You can find it in the installation folder of Inspire Designer, inside
the TNO Driver directory.

6.8 Possible Permissions Issue on 64-bit

Windows 7
When installing Inspire Designer on Windows 7 64-bit and your Write/Modify permissions for
the application folder are not set correctly, it may happen that PNetT.cfg and fontcache.dat
files are not available in the application folder after launching Inspire Designer.

To fix this:

1. Add the Write/Modify permission for the appropriate user on the application folder.

2. Start Inspire Designer with the -c parameter pointing to a directory where PNetT.cfg
and fontcache.dat files will be stored.

6.9 Possible Licensing Issues during

Workstation Installation
You may receive one of the following messages:

Dongle not found.

Unable to connect to License Manager server.

Possible reasons:

The server with the HASP dongle is located on a different subnet than the current
workstation.

HASP License Manager is not running properly (this may happen if you installed it over
Terminal Services).

32
6 Post Installation Steps and Troubleshooting

There might be firewall protection.

There is something wrong on the network.

Resolution:

Run telnet in the command line: telnet

Write: telnet sprite 475 into the command line where sprite stands for a
sample computer name or IP address and "475" is the port number where the License
Manager listens to requests.

If an empty screen appears, everything is OK and the connection with LM is working.

Then just press <Enter> some characters will appear and the connection will be
cancelled.

After this, it is necessary to create a nethasp.ini file (in Notepad for example), specify the target
licensing computer and place it into the directory where Inspire Designer will use it. This will
help if, for example, you are operating on a network with two subnets (the server with In-
spire Designer is located in one subnet and the workstation in the other).

The nethasp.ini file should contain these entries:

[NH_COMMON]
NH_IPX = Disabled
NH_NETBIOS = Disabled
NH_TCPIP = Enabled
[NH_TCPIP]
NH_TCPIP_METHOD = TCP
NH_USE_BROADCAST = Disabled
NH_SERVER_ADDR = licenseserver.sample_domain.net
; the IP address of the server where HASP License Manager is running

Please note that there must be a single empty line at the end of the nethasp.ini file for it to
work correctly.

Place the nethasp.ini:

For Microsoft Windows platform in the Windows system directory (e.g. C:\Windows\Sys-
tem32).

For Apple Macintosh platform in the following folders:

/etc/nethasp.ini for all users.

~/nethasp.ini for one user.

Note The nethasp.ini configuration file search order is as follows:

1. Executable file directory

2. Current directory

3. Windows system directory

4. Windows directory

5. Path (all directories set in PATH environment variable)

33
7 Uninstalling Inspire Designer

7 Uninstalling Inspire Designer

The uninstallation information (used by Windows Programs and Features dialog) is located in
HKCU part of the registry, e.g.

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Inspire Designer

The uninstalling procedure must be performed using the same user account under which the
product was installed.

To uninstall Inspire Designer

either go to the Control Panel | Programs and Features dialog, select the "Inspire De-
signer" entry and uninstall it,

or go directly to the Inspire Designer directory and run the uninstall.exe from there.

Note

If there is more than one version, the uninstall link in Control Panel | Programs and
Features dialog points to the uninstaller of the version that was installed most recently.

In the case that you would like to uninstall a previously installed version, you can run
the uninstaller (uninstall.exe file) manually, directly from the installation directory of the
appropriate Inspire Designer version.

Inspire Designer installers create logs for support purposes. The full local installation
creates the uninstaller and the log files in the specified installation directory (e.g.
C:\Program Files\GMC\Inspire Designer); the workstation installer creates
the uninstaller and the log files in the Application Data folder of the currently logged-
in user (i.e. the user whose account is used for running the installer), e.g.
C:\Users\user_name\Application Data.

The uninstall.log file contains the information about all files copied by the installer and
is used during the uninstallation to delete them. If any other files (e.g. that the user has
added to the installation directory) are found during the uninstallation, you will be
prompted by a message asking if only installed files should be removed, or also the user
files (i.e. all files).

If the Inspire Production Server has already been installed during the installation, a
confirmation dialog is displayed when the uninstallation dialog asks whether you want
to uninstall the Inspire Production Server automatically during the uninstallation process.

If the CX_DATA system environment variable is specified, the content of this folder is
never uninstalled automatically for security reasons as it may be shared across multiple
Inspire Designer based applications.
