Lesson No. 1: What is Information and Communications Technology?

Time Frame: 3 Days


Date of Implementation: June 14-16, 2017
Objectives:
1. Compare and contrast the nuances of varied online platforms, sites, and content to
best achieve specific class objectives or address situational challenges.
Day 1:
I. Motivation
1. Show pictures to the learners the different forms of technology they might be
using nowadays. (Cell phone, Tablet, Laptop Computer, Desktop Computer)
2. Ask the learners:
How many times have you checked your phone this morning?
How many status updates have you posted in any of your social networking
sites accounts?
Did you use the Internet for an hour after you woke up this morning?
Do you follow a celebrity via his/her social media account?
II. Development of the Lesson
3. Introduce Empowerment Technologies by discussing the Curriculum Guide to
the Learners.
4. Engage the class in a sharing of their ICT experience, what tools do they use,
what do they like about these tool.
5. Instruct the learners to open the link for Networked World Readiness
assessment http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/readinessguide/intro.html or provide its
printed version.
6. Ask the learners to answer the survey regarding the readiness assessment of
their community. Lead the students to share and discuss their answers.
7. Ask the learners: How has technology changed the world today? (EQ)
Day 2:
Development of the Lesson
8. Instruct the learners to compare and contrast the implications of varied online
platforms, sites, and content to achieve specific needs, objectives, or address
challenges in the classroom or in their community. On a piece of paper, the
learners will write down their insight in 300 words.
9. Introduce the term hashtag by engaging them in an activity.
10. Show the class a picture of a religious icon, the verses of a poem, lyrics of a
popular song, or images of book covers from the Internet or a cutout from a
magazine.
11. Ask the students to write hashtags on index cards or on a piece of paper.
12. Collect the hashtags and write them on the board. To approximate the likes in
an online social media, ask a raise of hands for every hashtag and count the
number of the likes. Rank the most number of votes and highlight the top three
with the highest number of likes.
13. Ask the learners the following Guide Questions:
What is the importance of hashtags?
How does it feel when you receive likes for your hashtags?
Day 3:
III. Closure
14. Ask the learners to write a brief reflection about Information and
Communications Technology.
15. Sharing of reflection follows.
