Model Description and Strategy

Caterpillar is pleased to introduce the availability of the 320D/320DL Hydraulic Excavator for
sale into the Asia Pacific. The 320D/320DL is a direct replacement for the 320C/320CL.

Since the introduction of the 300 family excavators in 1994, the Caterpillar 320 has become the
industry standard for general earth works, utility trenching and rental applications. The D Series
builds on this reputation with focused improvements to the key drivers of customer value:
operating costs, versatility, performance, reliability and operator comfort.

The 320D/320DL delivers:

Lower operating costs through flexible power management options and extended service
intervals
Improved Versatility with the Caterpillar quick couplers, and other factory installed options
Better performance through increased system pressures that deliver: stronger breakout forces,
faster cycle times and greater lifting capabilities.

Ground Level Serviceability
Ground Level Service has been maintained with the 320D. The
following service items are accessible from ground level

Fuel Filters
Air Filter
Hydraulic Case Drain Filter
Hydraulic Pilot Filter
Side by side cooling has been maintained in the 320D, with the
air-to-air-after-cooler is situated in from of the coolers, and ample
space (100mm) separates them to allow for cleaning.
Wires mesh screens are placed in front of the coolers that capture
debris and allow for easier cleaning.

Maintenance Intervals
Safety and Environmental Measures
All maintenance intervals for the 320C have been retained with the
320D with the exception of the hydraulic return filter, which has
increased from 1,000 hours to 2,000 hours interval.
Compatible with biodegradable oil

New Anti-Skid plate is much more effective than slip-resistant

plate or sandpaper in inclement weather conditions.

Compatibility
The greater forces generated in the 320D required larger bucket pins for the Mass Excavation
configuration (80 mm to 90mm), and to maintain reliability and durability. D-Series
compatibility with the C-Series needs to be carefully examined. Reference the following charts
for compatibility.
