1. Brief:
Client M/s. NUMALIGARH refinery limited (NRL), as a part of their corporate social responsibility,
proposes to construct a nursing college along with hostel facility in Golaghat district, Assam, India.
M/s. GALACON Infrastructure and projects PVT LTD. has won the bid to execute the above mentioned
facility and has chosen M/s. METEY Engineering and consultancy PVT LTD. to extend the architectural
and structural services to this project. The designs submitted will be vetted by NIT Warangal.
In continuation with the above, with the approved designs, fabrication drawings were prepared and
sent to JSPL for the fabrication work.
After the material got reached to the site and erection is in progress, a team comprising of Professor
(Mr. T.P. Tezeswi) from NIT Warangal and a designer (Mr. Pavan Patchigolla) from METEY Engineering
and Consultancy Pvt Ltd, visited the site for supervising the execution as per the designs and drawings.
The observations on the site visit are as follows:
2. Observations:
a. Review of concrete cube register
The team has reviewed the concrete cube register for the strengths of cubes for various pours
and the results found to be satisfactory. A representative from NRL is also found to constantly
monitoring the cube register. The cube strengths obtained during different days after casting,
are found to be satisfactory.

b. Review of mill certificate of reinforcing steel
Reinforcing steel is being used at the site is from a standard manufacturer JSW. The team has
reviewed the mill test certificates for the high yield strength deformed bars. The yield
strength, ultimate tensile strength, elongation values and ductility values are satisfying the
limits and hence are satisfactory. The reviewed documents are attached as Annex I.
c. Review of the foundation bolts
The diameters and positioning of the holding down or foundation bolts are checked. The bolts
are checked for nut tightening and the projection of foundation bolts above the base plate is
also reviewed. Most of the locations of foundation bolts are found to be ok. Some locations
are found with improper nut tightening and no projection of foundation bolts is observed
after tightening the nut. These locations are to be reviewed. These issues are brought to the
notice of the contractor and officials of NRL during the meeting.
Grouting is to be taken care of prior to concreting the grade slab.

d. Review of Structural steel columns and beams

Orientation:
The columns being asymmetric, the orientation of the columns and stubs are to be checked
very thoroughly. Based on the above, team has checked the orientation of the columns, stubs
and are found to be ok.
Dimensional tolerance:
The columns and beams are checked for the dimensions and are found to be with in the
acceptable limits of 2 mm.
Beam stub connections:
Team has checked for the connection of the main beam and stub beam along with the
columns. All the Beam Beam Stub joints are found to be ok.

e. Review of speed floor joists
The dimensions, spacing and orientation of the speed floor joists are reviewed and are found
to be ok.
The team has suggested the site to tack weld the shoe of the joist to the top flange of the
beam such that unseating of joists will not happen during concreting and earthquake as well.
