In the main text it says: In an isolated place, arrange on the shrine a

mandala of coloured sand, or a painting, or heaps of rice, depending on your
circumstances. In the center, on a raised platform, place the longevity vase in
the middle, the long life pills on the right, the long life arrow behind, the long
life alcohol on the left, and the long life torma in front, with the offerings all
around them. Imagine yourself and the deities as indivisible, and follow the
Rigdzin Dpa activity text through till the end of the section Offering Praise.

The vital heart essence, the syllable hr.

Rays of lights stream out and gather in
gyalwa rigdzin drangsong gih

The vital force and energy of the inanimate and animate universe,
tsech d la ch du dril
And the essence of longevity of all buddhas, vidydharas,
and rishis,

Concentrating it all into one vital elixir.1

Even the pores of my body are filled with Amityuses,
kn kyang bungwa tsang shyik tar

Every one of them reverberating sweetly, like swarming bees,
1 'Ch' is the vital force, quintessence, quality, potency or nutrition, of

both living things and inanimate matter in the environment, like
rocks and minerals. According to Dagyab Rinpoche in Buddhist
Symbols, pp. 6-8, "Ch really means 'essence-juice and vigor', or
'contents'. Originally the word was probably used to describe the
qualities of plants or food, but it is also used in a transferred sense for
the pure 'quality' of living beings, environments, energies, etc."
Taking 'essences' to support your life is called chlen rasayanaor
rejuvenation practice. There is also the 'ch''vital force' of long
life: the longevity possessed, for example, by the vidyadharas and
rishis. In the practice, all are fused into one life-force energy. The
Long Life Empowerment says: "Imagine that the vital force of
longevity of the vidyadharas and rishis, who live for aeons... all the
constituent elements, the radiance and presence and pure essence, all
the long life and auspiciousness and merits, of the whole inanimate
universe and all the sentient beings living within it, are gathered, like
iron filings swept towards a magnet, and dissolve into you... "

I accomplish the state of vidydhara of immortality.
Imagine this as clearly as you can as you recite it. Then maintain the soft
wind vase practice.

While holding the soft vase-breath, aply oneself diligently either to the silent
recitation or only the vajra recitation. For those of the highest capacity who
are free from conceptual elaboration, this is the longlife practice where wind
and mind are indivisible.

Generally, when practicing for the benefit of others, or for beginners whose
samdhi and power of the wind-energy are weaker, it is most important to
recite the accomplishment mantra and to imagine that all the manifestations
of Amityus resound with the syllable hr and light rays radiate out and
gather back. When practising for the benefit of others, that being's essence of
his or her life-force is visualized as the syllable nri inside the life force
[syllable], into which one gathers all the life-essences. [Whichever the case,] for
everyone it is said that is it excellent if during the latter part of the session one
practices the vajra recitation for a little while.
om ah hung benza maha guru ayurjnana maha

Like this, recite the longlife approach mantra and magine that the front
visualization resounds with hr sounds. At the end of the session, join this
with the soft vase-breath. Recite however many of the hr mantra you want,
either with the vajra recitation or silently. At the end, focus on the vase and
recite the following:

TsgukThe Summoning of Long Life
AT THE END OF THE SESSION IT IS THE time for summoning the

long life of the vidydharas. Measure the length of the long-life arrow, 2 and
then, with great feeling, chant:
2 The long-life arrow (Tib. Dadar) is not simply a ritual ornament, but
an instrument for making measurements. Before the practice, the
arrow is measured, then afterwards it is pulled to see how long it can
be stretched. If there is a noticeable difference, it means you have
accomplished the practice.

Along with your gathering of vidydharas, all in the rainbow

I invoke you! Arise from within the expanse of space!

And when the element consciousness flies away,

Enclose it in the expanse of rigpa that is Dhtvvar.

In this way, summon longevity. Then, after checking it through
the long-life divination,3 the life-force is secured, and the
longevity arrow is set, in its receptacle, standing straight upright:

Even if you don't elaborate like this, now, hold the longlife arrow and recite
the following
hrih, lha dang rigdzin ts yi dag

Hr! Deities and vidydhara of longlife,
3 'Ts tra' is the long-life divination. Generally 'tra' is a sign or vision

perceived in water or the sky or often in a mirror. It is a form of
divination but not performed with dice or a mala. Some people,
often women, have this gift naturally, without having to develop it
through practice; others simply cannot see the signs. By practising for
a week or ten days, it is possible to acquire the ability, and after some
time the 'tra' can even appear in the mind, directly. How to analyze
or interpret the signs is another matter altogether. According to the
Longchen Nyingtik, there is a practice of 'tra' through Tsringma.
Here, after practising the tsdrup and tsguk, we check, through 'tra',
to see what the life-span will be.

Give us mastery of longlife!

Let the empowerment transform into accomplishment!

May our life become indestructable like a vajra,
migyurwa yungdrung tabur gyur chik

Like the unchanging svastika,
minubpa gyaltsen tabur gyur chik

And the never waning victory banner!

May our life-force become as stable and firm as the vajra
mountain!


Immortal Life' - 37

At the time of sealing, straighten the arrow.
ah, jung ng ying su khyamp ts

! When our life-force wanders into the space of the five
elements,
yum ng long du gyetabp

It is secured within the expanse of the five mothers:
yeshe nga la kyechi m

The five primordial wisdoms know no birth and death,
ku ng ying su ts bepa
Our life is concealed in the space of the five kyas, and
rik ng gyalw kyang mi zik

Even the buddhas of the five families cannot see it!
