Classroom Behavior Management Plan

1. Verbal warming
2. Pull a ticket
3. Stay in 5 minutes at recess
4. Stay in all of recess/interview with Mrs. Fransen
5. Office

These were the steps that Mrs. Fransen had set with the students at the beginning of the year. So
of course I followed them. I think that for most students it did not affect them if they had to pull
a ticket. She would always threaten them with pulling a ticket but then never really followed
through with it. So the first couple of days when I was making them pull tickets, they were really
confused and shocked that I made them. She runs a very relaxed classroom and is not consistent
with her 5 steps. It was hard to manage when and when I shouldnt have used each step. I was
mostly guessing every time. By the end I just started being confident with my role in the class
and so I followed the rules as if I was the teacher who had made them up. Their behavior did
improve. In my future classroom, I would like to try positive reinforcement instead of negative. I
did start doing that in my center group. I would reward their hard work and following directions
with cougar paws. The students really responded to that. I think that it is very important to
understand what will affect your students the most as a consequence. Which means your
consequences will change from year to year with each new class. But I feel like it would be most
effective.
