PROCEDURE / METHODOLOGY

1. Set the Total Station, for example Station 2 and level it. Then, measure the instrument
height by using measuring tape.
2. Set the reflector on the tripod at back station for example Station 1 and level it,
measure the height of the reflector.
3. Set another reflector at forward station for example Station 3 and level it.
4. Enter the coordinate station X. Y, Z, height instrument and height of target station
into instrument.
5. By using back bearing into instrument, shoot Station 1 then press the measurement
button. If all the setting parameter are okay, the coordinate of Station 1 appear on the
display unit of the instrument, will be the same value as coordinate in the project
Traverse by Total Station and the height as in the Levelling project.
6. Then shoot the forward Station 3, to confirm the coordinates value. Normally, there
must be a small difference between the readings. But as long as the difference is
within tolerance, the work can be proceed.
7. Now, the detail can be surveyed by putting the detail pole at the detail point and only
the coordinates need to be recorded.
8. To make the calculation simple, try to get the height of the detail pole same as the
height of the instrument.
9. RLpt = RLstn + Htinst V - Httgt
