Assignment Overview

Tests
These are weekly tests that are due by Wednesday at 11:59 pm, and which review information
from your reading. Each test has 40 questions (multiple choice, true/false, and matching) with
60 minutes to complete it. During week three, the test will be split into two separate tests due to
the quantity of information. Students will complete 7 total tests during this course.

Discussions
These are weekly writing prompts that are due by Thursday at 11:59 pm, with 2 responses to
your classmates due by Saturday at 11:59 pm. The initial post should be a minimum of 300
words, and should address each aspect of the prompt. By Saturday, you will also respond to at
least two of your classmates' posts with a minimum of 150 words each. The writing prompts will
offer you a chance to apply the concepts and vocabulary from your textbook to the different
content and artworks that were presented in that weeks module. Students will complete 6
graded discussions with the option of completing 1 bonus discussion throughout the course.

Quizzes
SLO quizzes are to track student learning in the course and will count as bonus points. Movie
quizzes will address important information from any assigned films for a particular module.
Students will complete 9 quizzes during this course (2 bonus and 7 graded)
Creative Project
During week 4, students will have a chance to create an artwork themselves. This semester
you will be working on a grid enlargement. Students will not be required to purchase additional
materials, nor will they be graded on artistic ability. The discussion for week 4 will address
questions regarding your making process, and students will be graded on their digital
documentation of their artwork. This project is a lot of fun!!

Museum Paper
Throughout the course of the class students will be learning the different ways to approach
meaning in works of art. They will build a visual arts specific vocabulary, increase their visual
acuity and deepen their relationship with the concepts that give rise to works of art. The
museum paper is your final project, where you will demonstrate the synthesis of all of your
learning.

Each student is required to visit an art museum and provide proof of that visit, and to write about
a work of art of their choosing. The paper is a visual analysis, and will not require additional
research. The research here will be the students ability to mine the artwork for information and
to communicate that information in their visual analysis.

After the 4th week, students should begin to plan their museum trip. I will unlock the worksheet
that must be completed in the museum and the gallery guide. Students will have an opportunity
to receive 20 bonus points by posting a rough draft by for peer commentary by 7/29 and then
posting at least 2 constructive comments to their peers work. To receive credit, students must
complete all three posts.
