western blot

1 separate hiv proteins (antigens) using eletrophopresis

2 samples is incubated with the label to visualize the reaction
3 proteins will be transfered (blotted) to nitrocellulose paper
4 serum sample is added to nitrocellulose paper
5 antibodies will react to separated proteins (will be seen as bands)
6 compare with positive control
7 positive if 2 out of 3 bands

flow cytometry
1 whole blood is the sample
2 lymphocytes are labeled with fluorescent
3 mix label with blood sample
4 label will attach itself to the lymphocytes
5 red blood cells will be lysed
6 lymphocytes with label will be counted
7 side scatter and forward scatter
