4 POINT 11th GRADE SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT 2018

You must read two books in English for the MODULE D program and submit a
written book task on each by September 2017.

A. The 1st book must be the English simplified version of the book The Diary
of A Young Girl by Anne Frank. This book can be found in libraries, book
shops or can be freely downloaded:

BOOK TASK #1: After reading the Anne Frank's diary, write an opinion essay
of 100 words in which you discuss ONE of the issues below:

1) Do you think it is important for high school students in Israel and abroad
to read the diary of Anne Frank?

2) How do the events described by Anne Frank in her diary influence your
understanding of the Holocaust?

3) What message do you feel Anne Frank is sending to you personally in her
diary?

* Make sure that you explain your opinion by referring specifically to the book.
Give supporting information (examples, details and facts) from the book.

B. The 2nd book is a book of your own free choice. Choose a book appropriate
to your level and prepare ONE book task from the list on the following page. ->

C. WRITING A GOOD BOOK TASK:


For both book tasks, be sure to follow the instructions given below:

1. Provide a cover page : Include the title of the book; the author's name;
information on the book's level ; your name; class; date of submission;
teacher's name.
2. Make sure that your paper is handwritten.
3. Make sure that your paper is neat and aesthetic.
4. Make sure that you submit your paper on time. Points will be deducted for
late submission.
5. Check your spelling, grammar and use of vocabulary.
6. Try to be creative and original.
7. Provide specific information from the book.
BOOK TASK #2:

B. For your 2nd book, choose ONE task from the list below and write
100-120 words.

1. Write a newspaper report based on the events of the book. . You may
describe an important scene/ development/ high point in your book.
Include details of the character and plot. Give an attention grabbing
headline.

2. You are joining an archeology expedition to a far away island. You may
choose one character from your book to be your partner. You will have
to live on the island for 3 months sharing food and a tent together.
Tell what made you choose your character. Support your answer with
examples from the book.

3. You can give a gift to a character of your choice and you have as much
money as you need. Tell what the gift you would buy would buy and why
your character would like it. Support your answer with examples from
the book.

4. Photocopy a passage from the book which you found significant .


Explain why you think this passage is important. How does the passage
add to your understanding of the book's character(s) and/or plot.

5. If you have any creative talent, turn scene(s) or dialogue(s) in the


book into comic strip form (including drawings and spoken text).
Add a short explanation describing the scene(s) and its characters.
