Print the pattern- the pages should look similar to the ones below
Cut around the black outlining boxes of each page and tape them together based on the numbered circles in
the corners.

This is what pattern

after being fully
taped together.

Become familiar with some sewing terms: (these are examples and may not apply to your pattern)

Place the labeled

fold line along the folded edge
of the fabric. Cut out the pattern
piece through both layers of fabric
and open to get a full piece
Fabric folded over

Folded edge

After being cut out Needs to be clipped when cutting

the pieces out. It will be indicated by a small line at the
place that it needs to be marked. Example:
center of a pants waist or center neck of
a front piece. Mostly used when a piece
is cut on the fold. Although, may be used at
other times as well. You will
make a 1/8 (2mm) cut into the fabric at
that point. It will be used to match pieces
later.

Full piece opened after being cut out

For some
pieces, a right and a left side
need to be cut. Example: Hoods,
some pants and some sleeves.
To get the opposite pieces, cut 1
with the pattern facing up like the first photo
and 1 with the pattern facing down like the second photo.
You can also cut once on a piece of fabric thats been folded
over to get 2 layers.
Grainline is very important because it affects the way your fabric stretches.
If the grainline is vertical, the stretch is horizontal.
In most cases the stretch should be horizontal going around the body so the
grainline should be vertical.
If the grainline isnt easily visible you can see it better when you stretch the fabric .

Cut edge
The selvage edge will usually be kind of stiff
with some holes in it from the manufacturing
process.
The grainline runs parallel to the selvedge edge.

Meaning, the right sides of the fabric will be laying

together. This is the way most seams are sewn so the seam is only visible on
the wrong side (inside) of the fabric.
Assume that the fabrics will always be right-side-together unless otherwise specified.

Serger (if you only have a sewing machine you can use a small zig-zag stitch in place of all serged seams.

Sewing machine

Scissors or rotary cutter

Safety pins

2 sets of snaps and snap fastener. (suggested snap size is 14 aka 5/16: 8mm)

Begin! 1/4(6mm) seam allowances front shoulder straps

included in all pieces
1 Cut out all the pieces from
your main fabric:
-2 fronts
-1 back
-4 shoulder straps

Cut out the interfacing: back

-4 shoulder straps
-4 top corner pieces
at 1.5x1.5 (3.8x3.8cm) interfacing

Cut out the elastics: elastics

-1 back waist
-2 legs
2 Iron the interfacing to the
shoulder straps and the
top corners of the front
pieces

3 Serge across the top of the back piece

Fold the top edge 1.25 (3.2cm) down to the

wrong side and sew across the top at about
the same width, try to
follow the serged seam

Place a safety pin on each end of the

waist elastic

Thread the elastic through the top

opening
4 Lay the top, inside piece Lay back piece on it, Lay the top, outside piece
right side up lining up the right edges. right side down, lining
The back piece will be up the right edges
wrong side down

Serge all three layers together It should look like this when you open
from the top to the it up
beginning of the leg opening.
Make sure to take the elastic pin
out and catch the elastic in the seam
Line up the edges With all three layers lined up, serge them together,
of the left side now catching the elastic again. The back piece will be bunched
up inside because its wider than the front pieces

Serge the two front layers together across the top

Back Front

Turn the front pieces right-side-out

5 Turn the back piece so its inside out

Line up the bottom crotch edge so all three layers

are together and serge them closed. Turn right-side-out

inside front turned right-side-out

outside front

6 Serge around the leg seams

Fold the serged edge inside
the leg 5/8 (1.6cm) and
sew around the top at about the
same width, try to sew on top of
the serged seam 1 (2.5cm) gap

Leave a 1 (2.5cm) gap between the beginning

and end of the seam so you can thread
the elastic through

The edge may look a little twisted

since you are folding inside a larger
area but it will be fine since its
bunching up with the elastic
anyway

Place a safety pin on Thread the elastic all the way through the leg
each end of the leg elastic by starting at the seam gap

Overlap the elastic about 1/2 (13mm)

and sew the ends together
Pull the elastic inside the leg and
sew the gap closed

Do the same for both legs

7 Lay 2 shoulder straps together, right sides

of fabric together

Sew across the top and down one edge at

1/8 (3mm)
Turn the top right side out Turn inside out again. Sew down the open edge
to place a safety pin at the top The safety pin will be inside
edge

Slowly thread the safety pin down to

the opening until you can pull
the strap right-side-out
Sew around the
edges of the straps
to flatten

8 Fold the back elastic in half to

find the middle point. Place a pin to mark

Position the straps on the inside of

the back elastic so they are both
about 1/2 (13mm) away from the
center pin. Lay them across each other,
angled to meet the top two corners
of the front.
Pin in place
Sew the straps in place taking the
pins out as you go

Trim the extra off under

the seam

9 At the ends of the straps, set the male half of the snap. The ring will be on the inside of the strap
At the top two corners, set the
female half of the snaps

Do any ironing you want and youre done!
