Pizza
Date: March 16, 2016
Supervisor: Savannah Elsbury
Lead Teacher: Lauren Manzano-Hayes

Children and Learning/Development Goals:

1. Nathan: Nathans goal is to work on sharing and his letter sounds.


Nathan will be able to work on his goal at the manipulatives center
while using the rolling pins and cutters. He will need to share with his
peers. He can also work on his letters by recognizing the letters in the
labels of toppings and recipes in the dramatic play area.
2. William: Williams goal is to try new foods and work on his literacy. He will
be able to work on his goal at gathering time when he learns about
the different toppings. He can learn on his literacy skills at the dramatic
play area with the toppings labels and recipe lists.
3. Isaac: Isaacs goal is to work on his Alphabet. I will have letters hidden
in the sensory table along with tools that start with that letter.
4. Max: Maxs goal is to work on joining with other children to play. He will
be able to work on this goal at the dramatic play area while they play
pizza parlor.
5. Eve: Eves goal is to work on sharing. She will be able to work on her
goal at the sensory area where she can share the measuring cups to
scoop up letters and objects.
6. Carlie: Carlies goal is to work on her social interaction with the class.
She can work on this goal at the block area where she will get to
problem solve and work with her peers to build different restaurants
and parlors.

Preassessment and Findings:

1. Nathan: I asked Nathan if he liked pizza and he said, Yes, I love pizza! I
then asked him what he liked on his pizza and he said, I only like cheese.
2. William: I asked William if he knew how pizza dough was made. He replied,
I dont know, I think with bread and cheese. Then I asked well how is the
bread (which is dough) made? And he said, I dont know.
3. Isaac: I asked Isaac what he liked on his pizza. He replied, I like cheese
and sometimes other things. I asked him what kinds of things and he
replied, I cant remember.
4. Carlie: I asked Carlie how she thought pizza dough was made. She
replied, Umm I think with flour. Then I said is that all? And she replied, I
think so. I then asked her what her favorite topping was and she said,
Cheese and sometimes pepperoni.
5. Johnny: I asked Johnny if he knew how the pizza dough was made. He
replied, Yeah I know! Then I said ok tell me! He replied, with flour and
water! I then asked him where it is made. He said, The kitchen.

Ideas to be Emphasized:
1. In order to make pizza dough, we need to use a recipe that shows all the

2. There are so many different toppings that can be put on a pizza, and
everyone likes different toppings like cheese, pepperoni, ham, sausage,
olives, mushrooms, or even pineapple.

Ideas to be Emphasized:

1. In order to make pizza dough, we need to use a recipe that shows all the
ingredients we need and what steps to take.
2. There are so many different toppings that can be put on a pizza, and
everyone likes different toppings like cheese, pepperoni, ham, sausage,
olives, mushrooms, or even pineapple.
3. There are special places where pizza is made and delivered called Pizzerias.

Special instructions for the day: During Self-Selected teachers will need to help make sure that
children have made a pizza and for those who have not make a few extra so they have one for
small focus group to eat. When pizzas are being made we must put them in the oven to cook
during self-selected so that they have time to cook and cool off before we break up into small
focus groups. Teachers set up small focus group tables with the cooked pizzas and other group
materials before the children get there please!!!! This is so we are not scrambling and keeping
the children waiting for the pizzas to come for so long.

Activity Description: Literacy will be embedded in the sensory table where there will be labeled pizza
ingredients and utensils as well as alphabet block letters. The children can be encouraged to
recognize letters in the labels and point and teachers can help point out letters that are in their name.
Child Objective: The children will be able to use their literacy skills to find and identify different letters of
the alphabet as well as relate them to letters in their name.
Intentional Teaching: Teachers should prompt he children to find letters in the labels that relate to their
name at the sensory table. They can also assist the children in spelling their name or other simple words
with the alphabet blocks.

Intentional Teaching: Teachers can encourage
the children to put different toppings that they
like on the pizzas and assist by helping children
who still developing their fine motor skill with
pressing and pasting. They can still encourage
them to think of other toppings and help the
children form different toppings out of the given
materials.
*Manipulatives: Activity Description: The children will be able to Play dough in beige, red and

*Math: Lets Make Activity Description: The children will be able to Pizza dough balls or

syringes if needed and dump and refill bins with
the water and shaving cream if needed. The
teachers can prompt the children to identify the
colors that they see and explore the new colors
that form when they mix. They will also explain to
the children that the shaving cream are like
clouds that fill up with rain and when they get full
of water (rain), the rain falls down.
*Sensory Table: Activity Description: The flour or wheat mix will be Wheat (RR2 G36)

are in their name and spell them with the letters.
The teachers will also talk about what is in the
pictures with the children as well as explain how
wheat is used to make flour that we use to make
dough.

about those ingredients.

others are jumping for safety.

in. As I mix and knead the dough I will sing the, I
like to mix, mix, mix, mix the pizza dough and
when I knead the lyrics will be replaced with
Knead. Once the pizza dough is finished I will
place it on a pizza or cookie sheet and flatten it
out.

I will say this is the first thing we do when we


prepare a pizza is make the dough, then ask

will be the letters P-I-ZZ-A on the name-tags and
whichever teacher has that letter the children will
go with that assigned teacher.

Your Activity Description & Objective Materials


Petes a Pizza! Description: The teachers will take turns with reading 1) Paper
