Introduction
Complete the worksheet prior to starting the VPLEX setup procedure.
This document is a supplement to the VPLEX VS2 Configuration Guide and the VPLEX
VS6 Configuration Guide.
Use this worksheet to collect some or all of the following for each cluster:
l IP (IPv4 only) networking information for:
n VPLEX management interfaces
n EMC secure remote support gateway
l Schedule for metadata backup
l Optional authentication directory service information (LDAP or Active Directory)
l SMTP details to configure call home notifications
l SNMP information for performance statistics
l Certificate Authority (CA) and host certificate information
l Product registration information to initiate your EMC support services
l VPLEX Metro over IP only: A worksheet for IP WAN configuration information
l VPLEX Metro only: A worksheet for Cluster Witness (VPLEX Witness)
configuration information

Note

VPLEX Geo configurations are not supported in Release 5.5 and later.

Note

VPLEX Metro over IP is not supported in Release 6.0 and Patches. Refer to the
release notes for your release to determine if VPLEX Metro over IP is supported fully
for the activity you require.

Information for Cluster 1

Cluster 1 is the only cluster in a VPLEX Local configuration or the first cluster in a
VPLEX Metro configuration.
If this cluster will be configured in a VPLEX Metro over IP, then complete the
information in this section and, for the installation team, fill the information in the
tables from "VPLEX Metro over IP only: IP WAN networking information for Cluster 1"
onwards.
If Cluster 1 will be configured in a VPLEX Metro configuration, then you must also
complete the tables from "VPLEX Metro over IP only: IP WAN networking information
for Cluster 1" through "Cluster Witness Configuration Information."

Pre-installation information for IP WAN COM connections

The information in the table for "VPLEX Metro over IP only: IP WAN networking
information for Cluster 1" is used by the installation team to configure a VPLEX Metro
implementation that is set up for inter-cluster communication over IP. The inter-
cluster com traffic must be on a different network than the management traffic and
must be on different subnets than the management network.
Note the following:
l It is not necessary to use VLANs. If they are used, however, all ports in VPLEX
port-group 0 must be assigned to the same VLAN, and all ports in VPLEX port-
group 1 must be assigned to the same VLAN. Also, the VLAN used for port-group 0
must be different than the VLAN used for port-group 1.
l IP WAN connections in VS2 engines are optical 10 Gb/s Ethernet. These
connections do not automatically negotiate down to slower speeds. This means
they must be connected to 10 Gb/s equipment (such as switches or routers). The
connected equipment can then negotiate down to slower connection speeds if
required.
l The IP WAN ports do not support trunking.
The IP subnets are used by separate port groups (port 0 and port 1) that have static IP
addresses assigned to them. The following chart shows the number of static IP
addresses that must be available for your installation team.
