into society. Not only in order to look like less of a
tourist but rather because they wanted to learn of a
culture different than their own as well as not to be
rude to the locals. With that in mind, I found the
concept to be interesting that an individual staying in
a foreign country for a lengthy period of time would
do little to integrate themselves into society. The
concept is particularly interesting when you consider
the fact that from country to country, culture is very
different and it is difficult to keep the same traditions
as it is more difficult to find the resources in order to
do so. Perhaps the next significant aspect of such a
tactic is that I would find it to be rude for an
individual to take such action and reject the culture in
which they are currently invading.
Pg. 3 ..to understand other cultures it is necessary to Perhaps the best way to learn and truly understand

different tenures. By conducting extended and different tenures, it
results in two outcomes. The first being that with it
being extended, it allows a long period of time to
have multiple experiences and to get that much
deeper of an understanding by continuously
experiencing the culture each day. The second aspect
of different tenures explains that there are different
cultures. By living in one country in Europe, it does
not give you an understanding of all of Europe. Even
within the U.S., there are cultural differences even
going from the North to the South or the East to the
West. While it is one country, there are still vast
differences throughout the nation. By taking different
tenures, it is opening up multiple cultural
experiences.

enhance their leadership skills. A leader can be skillful
in a multitude of ways but ultimately by being
emotionally intelligent, a leader is gaining the ability
to better build relationships with others if there is
that aspect of understanding.
Pg. 6 The fundamental roots, or codes, of how things The groups that are listed within this quote give great

within this country are regions, organizations,
communities, or social groups and families that differ
from one another significantly even though they are
from the same country. Within each of these groups,
theyre culture is so deeply understood and practiced
that perhaps that is the reason some have trouble
adjusting to foreign cultures.
Pg. 9 The concept of Self - Management In my previous point, I discussed how different
culture can vary even within one country. With that in
mind, it is important to restrict ones own cultural
code and act appropriately based on the culture you
are immersed in. This also reflects an earlier point I
made of presenting oneself as rude when behavior
reflects your own culture and not the one you are
visiting.
Connections As I noted in MR 1, its important to be culturally aware while teaching. Cultural context is not
to previous something that should be ignored when constructing lesson plans and activities. With this in mind, it
reading (s) notes in the text how an emotionally intelligent leader would be in tune with the local culture. I believe a
teacher is in a similar situation while in the classroom. As a teacher, my teaching experiences thus far
have been in poor areas at urban city schools while I grew up in a middle class suburban area. As I teach
in these areas, I become the emotionally intelligent leader that adapts to local culture. It was something
that I wasnt totally prepared for on my first day, but I learned quickly about my students culture in
order to better build a relationship with them. By ignoring their culture, it would have created an
unhealthy relationship with my students. While it is my job to deliver the content to them, it can create a
sort of barrier between us if they feel I dont understand them or where they come from. I also found
that because of our cultural differences, it helped even further to not only acknowledge them but to
make the environment open for questions in order to create a safe and comfortable environment.
