Career Break: Travel and volunteer work across the Middle East
Activities included providing math and literacy education for out-of-school young refugees and assisting in making sure
preschools are safe and inviting for younger children. Further, my work aimed to better the psychological and educational
needs of children to improve their resources and workbooks. Working for local NGOs including Najda Now, Salaam LADC
(Lebanon) and the Palestine Solidarity Project (Palestine) key responsibilities included:

Senior Sales and Programme Manager, National Citizen Service The Challenge
As Senior Sales Manager I was responsible for driving the sales efforts to enrol young people on the National Citizen Service
(NCS) programme. Duties included:
Setting, analysing and monitoring performance to ensure delivery against ambitious targets
Leadership and direct line management of four Managers and oversight of their respective teams, including
training, personal development and performance management
Managing stakeholder relationships, from MP's to local delivery partners; ensuring consistency across business
units whilst building advocacy for the organization
Representing The Challenge at meetings and events with the NCST Trust and Cabinet Office, including local MPs
Budgeting, forecasting and monthly financial remuneration
Implement and adapt local strategy and processes to achieve a 30%+ increase in market penetration.

As Sales Team Leader, I was responsible managing a team of Sales Co-ordinators in signing up young people to take part in
the NCS programme. Duties included:
Building and maintaining effective relationships with local schools, teachers and other youth-led organization
Advertising the NCS programme through presentations in assemblies, PSHE classes and follow-up phone calls.
Assist young people and their parents through the sign-up process
Coaching and mentoring members of the team and training new starters.

Refugee Camps across the Middle East

October 2015 - CSV Volunteer Supporting Families Project


The Volunteers in Child Protection (ViCP) project was developed in response to the Laming Inquiry and the death of Victoria
Climbi in 2000. The project recruits, trains and supports volunteers who are then matched with families where children
are at risk of abuse or neglect. As a volunteer, my role involved:
Supporting families in organising their daily routines.
Supporting young children with their homework and routine at home.
Providing psycho-social support to young parents an carers, including assisting them in fulfilling their duties as
part of the Child Protection Plan (CPP).

September 2015 The Challenge


Personal Coach/Mentor for a young person with special educational needs, supporting them through life tasks and
choices over a period of 16 weeks.

August 2014 The Challenge


Senior Mentor for The Challenge summer programme, responsible for leading, inspiring mentoring and developing a team
of 15-17 year olds during their NCS programme. Empowering young people to develop new skills as well facilitating and
developing curriculum sessions to the team in an engaging and inspiring way.

Participated in a bucket collection to raise 1000 for the Horn of Africa famine.

August 2010-July 2011 - Volunteer Society Nepal


Volunteering included; Creating a positive environment for children in an orphanage, helping them with homework on a
one to one basis every day. Teaching Nepali women basic English, assisting teachers in a charity funded school by helping
students with class work and undertaking some construction work at the school. I also worked in a day centre for a group
of children with different disabilities, encouraging them to be interactive and sociable through play.
