What once started as the way to grow the seeds of education is now just a way to

secure votebanks . Yes, I am talking about the Reservation System in India .

Reservations has caused more problems in india , far more than it cured.

History of the Reservation system in India

History dates us back to the time of the varnas . The Varna System is the reason
we are facing the problems of the Reservation today . The varna system had
severely exploited the lower stratas in the previous times . To uplift and to cure
the downtrodden from the cruelty that they dealt in the past , Ambedkar gave
rise to the reservation system in india . The main intention of the reservation
system was to favour the downtrodden namely the Scheduled Castes and
Scheduled Tribes . The main thing that went against Ambedkars view of equality
and his reservation system was the implementation of it . Even Ambedkar
wanted the reservation to end in 10 years as soon as the lower strata become
equal to the other castes

Reservation in the Education System

When you belong to the general Category the reservation system just
doesnt seem right to you . When the education system in your country
categorizes you on the caste that you belong to and not on the merit
that you have , there is something seriously wrong with your education
system . When with 91 % I could not get into Delhi University and my
friend with just a 67 % got into one of the most prestigious college of
the university , I was shattered . When you toil so hard for the best and
you see someone not so worth it take it away from you , you start
questioning the education system . More number of individual are
opting for foreign universities as they treat the individual at par and not
on the basis of their surname
BOON OR BANE ?

The Reservation system was definitely a boon when it started but its
implementation in the previous years and exploitation has led it to
become a bane . The General Category is now suffering at the hands of
the policy makers as they dont seem to get what the desereve in any
section of the society . The caste that are reserved dont see it as a
boon either but who doesnt like some reservation coming their way
in India . Times have reversed , today people want to be treated as a
scheduled caste just because they would get reservations in jobs and
educations . The jat andolan and the Patidar Agitation are prime
examples of it .

INCOME BASED RESERVATION A WAY OUT

Reservation if any , should be based on the income on the individual

and not on their caste . Reservation in the first few years uplifted a lot
of people but now it is just misused . 60% of villagers that belong the
Scheduled caste and tribes still dont have proper education or a job
which clearly shows that the reservation system hasnt worked in the
way that it had to . Income should be the only basis on which
reservations should be granted on by the Government of India . People
who cannot afford education should be the ones who should get
reservations .

Its high time the judicial system in the country intervenes to stop this
reservation system in india because the politicians in this country are
giving out reservations like berries just to get some votes. Govt of India
needs to realize that if they favour caste over merit , they will be losing
immense talent that this nation has to the foreign countries .

Change is necessary for the well being of humanity and thus changes
should be brought to the reservation system in india . You cannot use a
medicine after it has expired , everything has an end and the
reservation system should have it too
