1-Walk around (Check)
-Look around the machine and under the machine to
check for loose nut and bolts, collection of dirt, or
leakage of oil, fuel, or coolant, and check the
condition of work equipment and hydraulic system.
Check also for loose wiring, play and collection of
dust at places, which reach high temperatures.

-Check for oil leak at high-pressure hose joints and hydraulic cylinder.
-Check Transmission case for oil leak.
-Check final & tandem drive case for oil leak.
-Check tightness of air cleaner mounting bolt.
-Check tightness of battery terminal.
-Check around the engine for water and oil leak.
-Check radiator for water leak.

2- Coolant level (Check & refill coolant)

-Remove radiator cap (1) at the rear of the


machine and check that the coolant is above the
hatched portion marked in the diagram on the
right. If the coolant level is low add more water.

3- Dust indicator (Check)

When air cleaner element is clogged, the


red piston of dust indicator (1) reaches
service level and gets locked.
In this case, clean element referring to
section WHEN REQUIRED.

4- Fuel level (Check and add)

-Turn the engine-starting switch G


to ON position and check the fuel
level with fuel level gauge (G).
-After completing work, fill the
fuel tank through fuel filter port
(F).
-After adding fuel, tighten the cap securely.
Fuel Capacity: 400 liters
If breather hole (1) in cap become clogged, the
pressure inside tank will go down and the fuel
may not flow, so clean the breather hole from
time to time.

9- Rise in air pressure (Check)


-If the pressure inside the air tank is 0, charge the tank with air to raise
the indicator of the air pressure gauge to the green range by running the
engine at low idle for approx. 3 minutes, or by running it at full throttle
for less than 1.5 minutes.

-Open engine side cover located on the right


of machine.
-Open oil filler F.
-Loosen drain plug P, and drain the oil.

-Using the filter wrench, turn filter cartridge 1


counterclockwise to remove it.
(After stopping the engine, wait for 10 minutes
before starting this Operation.)

install it to the filter holder.

-Check that the oil is at H and L mark on

5- Oil level in circle reverse gear case ( Check, add oil)

Stop the engine and leave it for 5 minutes.


- Remove plug (F) from oil filler port, and
check if oil level is enough by level gauge in
the standard tools.
-If the oil level is not up to the top of the
surface of the gear, add gear oil through the
oil filler port.
-If the oil level is correct, install oil filler plug
(F) back.

Remark:
There may be wear particles in the oil, but there is no problem using the oil as it is.

6- Oil level in hydraulic tank (Check, add oil)


-Set the machine in position as follow to check the oil level.
. Return the leaning of front tiers to the upright position and face
the wheels straight to the front.
. Set the front frame and rear frame facing straight (articulated
angle =0). Install the articulated lock pin.
. Return the blade side shift to the center of the machine, set the
blade at right angle to the chassis and lower it lightly to the ground.

Stop the engine, wait for at


least 5 minutes, and then H
check that the oil level is
between H and L mark on

7- Level in battery electrolyte (Check)

- Remove cap (1), and check that the electrolyte is up


to UPPER LEVEL line. If level is low , add distilled
water.
-When adding distilled water to any cell at cap (1) ,
add distilled water also to other cells.
-Clean the air hole in the battery cap, then tighten the
cap securely.

8- Ball joint clearance (Check)


There are ball joints, so inspect and adjust
all of these places.
1- Remove all the shims from ball joint.
2-Tighten the caps with bolts (1) to make the
same clearance on the left and right.
3- Measure the clearance with a thickness
gauge, then insert one shim more than this
dimension, and tighten the cap.

Thickness of one shim: 0.2 mm

9- Wheel hub nut and hub bolt (check and tighten)


-If wheel hub nuts 1 are loose, tire
wear will be increased and accidents
may be caused.
- Check for loose nuts, and tighten if
necessary. When checking for loose
nuts, always turn the nuts in the
direction of tightening to check.
- If any stud bolt is broken, replace
all the stud bolts for that wheel.

10- Wheel rim, lock ring and side ring (Check for corrosion and wear)
- If the wheel rim, lock ring and
side ring are heavily corroded,
ask the tier manufacturer or your
Komatsu distributor for
inspection.

11- Fan belt tension (Check, adjust)


-The deflection of the belt should be
approx. 10 mm when pressed with a
finger force of approx. (6 kgf) at a 1
point midway between the fan pulley
and the alternator pulley.
Adjusting:
1- Loosen bolt 1 and alternator 2

12- Parking brake lever stroke (Check , adjust)
- When the parking brake lever is pulled by 2-3 clicks , if
the machine is stopped securely the lever stroke is
normal. If the lever can be pulled to the 6 clicks before
the brakes takes effect, adjust it according to the
following procedure.
1- Move the vehicle so that adjustment hole (1)
of the brake drum will be about 15mm right to
the bottom center. (As machine moves about
29cm , the brake drum revolves by one turn.)
2- Insert a screwdriver in the adjustment hole and turn the adjusting screw in the
direction to expand the shoe (lower the grip of the screwdriver) to fit the shoe to the
drum, then return by clicks (the shoe clearance becomes 0.23 mm).
3- Adjust the yoke and nut at both ends of cable for proper stroke of the lever (3~4 clicks).
4- After adjustment, drive about 500 m, then check the temperature of the drum to see if it
is lower than of the adjacent drive shaft. A higher temperature indicates that the brake is
dragging.

1- Fuel filter cartridge (Change)

Using a filter wrench, turn filter cartridge 1


counterclockwise to remove it.
Clean the filter holder, fill a new
filter cartridge with clean fuel,
coat the packing with engine oil,
and then install it to the filter
holder.

When installing, tighten until the packing surface contacts the seal surface of the
filter holder, then tighten it up to of a turn.

- If filter cartridge is tighten too far, the packing will be damaged and this will lead
to leakage of fuel. If the filter cartridge is too loose, fuel will also leak from the
packing, so always tighten to the correct amount.

1- Fuel filter cartridge (Change)

Loosen the air bleed plug 2 and


knob of feed pump 3 and operate it
up and down until air ceases to
come out of air bleed plug. This will
bleed the air.

Tighten up air bleed plug 2 and push in the knob of feed


pump 3 and tighten it.

After replacing the filter cartridge, start the


engine and check that there is no leakage of
fuel.

3- Radiator fins (Replace element)
-Clean the radiator fins if any mud or dirt
is stuck to the radiator.
-Remove bolt 1 (X6) to remove panel 2.

-Clean the radiator fins clogged with mud,


dust or leaves with compressed air. Steam 1
or water may be used instead of
compressed air.

-Check the rubber hoses. If they are


cracked or brittle, replace them. At this 2
time, check the hose clamps for looseness.

4- Circle guide clearance (check, adjust)

Testing
-Raise the blade and use feeler gauge to
measure clearance P between the top surface of
the circle and the bottom surface of the
drawbar as shown in diagram. The standard

the blade at right angle to the chassis and lower it lightly to ground.
-loose the oil filler port (F) slowly to

6- Corrosion resistor cartridge


(Replace)
- Close the valve (2) at the corrosion
resistor.
- Using the filter wrench, remove cartridge
(1) by turning it counterclockwise.
- Coat the seat surface of the new cartridge
with engine oil and install it to the filter
holder.
- when installing, bring the gasket into
contact with seal surface of the filter
holder, then tighten approx. 2/3 turns. 2
- After replacement, Open valve (2).

2- Engine breather element


(Clean)
-Wipe off all the dirt around breather 1.
-Remove breather 1.
-Wash out the whole element in diesel fuel or flushing
oil, then blow it to dry with compressed air.
-Replace the breather O-ring with a new part, coat
with engine oil and install it.

3-Turbocharger (clean & check rotation of impeller)


Ask KOMATSU distributor to clean the turbocharger and check rotation of the rotor impeller.
4- Vibration Damper (Check)
-Check that there are no cracks or peeling in the outside surface of the rubber.
-If any cracks or peeling are found, contact your KOMATSU distributor to have the parts
replaced
5- Alternator, Starting Motor (Check)
-The brush may be worn, or bearing may have run out of grease, so contact your KOMATSU
distributor for inspection or repair.
-If the engine is started frequently, carry out inspection every 1000 hours.
6- Engine valve clearance (Check)
-Contact your KOMATSU distributor for inspection or adjustment.
7- Front wheel bearing (check and adjust)
-Contact your KOMATSU distributor for inspection or adjustment.

2000 HOURS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT AT THE SAME TIME.

1-Water pump (Check)

-Check that there is no play in the pulley or any grease leakage, or clogging of the
drain hole. If any abnormality is found, contact your Komatsu distributor for
disassembly and repair or replace.

When Required

1-Cooling system (Clean inside)


Clean the inside of the cooling system, and replace the corrosion resistor, according to
the table. * Stop the machine on the level ground when cleaning or changing coolant.

When Required (Continue)

1-Cooling system (Clean inside)


-Open drain valve (3) and drain

plug (4) on the oil cooler and drain
the coolant.
-After draining the coolant close
drain valve 3 and drain plug 4,
and fill with tap water.
When the radiator is full, start the engine, run at low idling, and
operate for 10 minutes to raise the water temperature to 90 degree C.
-Stop the engine, open drain valve 3 and drain plug 4, and drain the
water.
-After draining the water, use a cleaning agent to carry out cleaning.
Follow the instruction on the cleaning agent container when carrying 4
out cleaning operation.
-Close drain valve 3 and drain plug 4.
-Stop the engine for 3 minutes.
1 Check the coolant level at the end
and add water if necessary
-Replace corrosion resistor and open valve 1.
-Add tap water until the water level is near the water filler port, and tighten the cap.

3-Cutting edge (replace), End bit (reverse & replace)


-Lift the blade to a suitable height and put a block 1
underneath the blade rail to prevent it from falling.
-Remove nuts 2, then remove end bit 3 and cutting edge 4.
-Clean the mounting face for cutting edge and the end bit.
-Install new cutting edge and end bit. 1

-If the cutting edge (bottom) of the end bit is worn,


reverse the end bit and interchange the left and right
4 side, or replace, then install.

-After several hours of running, Tightening torque of mounting nut: 260 34.5 Nm
retighten the nuts. 26.5 3.5 kgf.m

-If any of following problems has occurred, please contact your Komatsu
distributor for inspection and adjustment.

If the machine does not stop even when the inching pedal is depressed.
If the machine does not move lacks power even when the inching pedal is released.

-Inspection: every 12 months - Disassembly: every 24 months
When Required -As a basic rule, the guideline for disassembly is every 24 months
or 2000 hours.
5-Disc brake (Check)

Method of inspecting piston seal function.


-Remove drain plug 3 from the cage, and
measure the amount of oil that leaks out
from the piston chamber.
-Depress the brake pedal and keep the
brake applied.
-If the amount of oil leaking is more than
20 cc, disassemble and replace the seal.
Method of checking brake disc wear.
-Remove inspection plug 1 from the cage.
-Depress the brake pedal and keep it applied.
-Inspect the clearance between the end of
the inspection hole and separator plate 2 as
shown in diagram.
-If there is no clearance, the disc has
reached the wear limit, so replace it.
