Comm 1010 Informative Outline

Specic Goal: My audience will learn how to know if they are being sexually
harassed in the workplace, and how to go about reporting it.

Application: This could stop the attack of a person from a co-worker, or help
prevent a lawsuit on a company.

Ethos: Primary Ethos: I work in an environment where sexual harassment


could a!ect my pay grade.

Secondary Ethos: I will go over the di!erent ways to report, from global
corporations.

Pathos: This could help lead to stopping a potentially dangerous person from
hurting another.

Logos: Using large businesses sexual harassment documents and procedures, I will
explain the best way to know and report.

Audience Assessment: My audience likely knows of sexual harassment, but not


how to report.

Adaptation to Audience: By de$ning sexual harassment, and the di!erent types,


this will help my audience become more knowledgeable.

Pattern of Organization: Chronological in the Introduction, Topical in the Body.

Introduction
I. Hook: How do you know if what you are dealing with is sexual harassment, and
if so, how do you report it?
A. Sexual harassment is the harassment in a workplace, involving the
making of unwanted sexual advances or obscene remarks.
B. If you report the harassment, it will never look bad on you, as you
are helping the situation.

II. Thesis: Knowing what classi$es as sexual harassment will help decide o! you
should report it.

III. Preview: I will go over the di!erent types of harassment.


First, Ill explain that it can be done variety of ways.
Second, Ill de$ne the di!erent ways it can be done.
Third, Ill describe how to report.

Transition: Now that we have gone over the de$nition of sexual harassment, we
will go over the ways to determine if you should report it.

Body
Knowing when to make a report, is the most important part of a sexual harassment
claim. (U.S. Department of State, 2015)

Transition: Now lets talk about when to know if it is actually sexual harassment.

There are a few ways to determine if it is actually sexual harassment.


If you have been touched or harmed at all, it is sexual
harassment (Workplace Fairness, 2016).
If a sensible person would $nd it o!ensive, or of a sexual
nature, it is harassment. (America First Credit Union, 2004).
If they way they are speaking or what they are doing is
making you uncomfortable then it is safe to report it (U.S.
Equal Employer Opportunity Commission, 2016).

Transition: There is no set way to sexually harass someone, so we will go over the
few di!erent types of sexual harassment that one may experience.

One type of sexual harassment is through text messaging or internet servers


(U.S. Equal Employer Opportunity Commission, 2016).
Another type may be any type of touching, that makes one feel
uncomfortable, or that is not in a professional manner (America First Credit
Union, 2004).
The other type that is less noticeable is any gestures or stances that are of an
inappropriate manner (America First Credit Union, 2004).

Transition: Now we know the multiple types of sexual harassment, we will go over
how to report.

A. Confront person, as there is a chance that they do not realize that


what they are doing is making you uncomfortable.
1. Always document the situation.
2.Remmeber to identify said person.
B. Speak with a manager or a Human Resources head.
1. Always document the situation.

C. Continue to show up to work.

Conclusion
V. If you report sexual harassment, it could help stop the harassment of
others, as
well.
VI. Doing this will not a!ect your job, but will help stop a potential criminal
from
Getting away with crimes.
