Dilating eye drops are used to enlarge the pupil
of the eye, allowing your optometrist to examine
your eyes in greater detail.
While completely painless, the drops may blur your
vision for a short period of time afterwards and
make your eyes more sensitive to light. As the
effects may last for up to a few hours, it is not
advisable to drive immediately after your consultation
and you should arrange alternative transport home.
When your eye assessment is complete, your
optometrist will explain the best treatment options
available to you and answer any questions you
may have.
You will be given a patient information folder that
includes an infiormed consent document and all

 Treatment thats right for you
There are two methods of laser eye surgery;
LASIK and LASEK. The most commonly
performed method is LASIK treatment, however
some patients are better suited to LASEK.
Both treatments may be enhanced with iDesign,
revolutionary diagnostic technology that can detect
even the most minute imperfections of your eye,
allowing your surgeon to custom-fit your treatment
to the exacting specification of your eyes.
The Optical Express LASIK treatment offered
is iLASIK, an all-laser treatment comprising two
computer-guided, ultra-fast, precision lasers that
utilise cool laser beams; the first to create a thin
protective flap on the outer window of your eye
(cornea); and a second to correct your vision by

Important measurements will be taken and the
final recommendation whether to proceed will
be made by your surgeon. In a small number
of cases, the surgeon may recommend a
different treatment.
Your surgeon will advise you what to expect
during your surgery and answer any final
questions you may have, after which you will

clinical team will ensure you are comfortable.

Lens surgery patients will first go to a pre surgery
room where your anaesthetist will administer a
local anaesthetic and apply drops to your eye
while you remain awake.
Following your treatment you will rest in the
recovery room before you are discharged.
Patients are advised to bring a pair of non-
prescription sunglasses to wear during the
journey home as your eyes may be sensitive
to light. Lens surgery patients will be given a
protective shield to wear over the treated eye.
Following treatment, we recommend our patients
go home and sleep for a few hours.
Your first aftercare appointment will be the
following day and it is important that you attend
at that time to ensure your recovery gets off to
the best possible start.
On your treatment day and following the next
days appointment you will not be able to
drive, so please ensure you arrange alternative
transport.
