INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL WORK

CALL FOR ADMISSION FOR 2017/2018 ACADEMIC YEAR


The Institute of Social Work (ISW) invites applications from qualified candidates for
admission into various PROGRAMS that will be offered by the Institute for the 2017/2018
academic year that will begin in October 2017.

1. MASTERS DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK

Entry Qualifications:
i) The Advanced Diploma in Social Work or Bachelor in Social Work or
Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work. The applicants in this category who
have Social Work background will only be required to undertake the
Advanced Modules that carry 120 credits
OR
ii) Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences preferably in any of the following:
Community Development, Sociology, Health Sciences, Psychology, Education,
and any other related discipline.

The applicants in this category who do not have Social Work background will
be required to undertake both Foundation and Advanced Modules that carry
260 credits.

iii) The applicant must also have a minimum 2.7 GPA results in the
undergraduate degree. Preferably applicants should have at least 2 years work
experience after completion of undergraduate studies.

2. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMS- (OFFERED DURING THE


EVENING i.e. (SESSION B)

i. Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work


ii. Postgraduate Diploma in Law, Mediation and Arbitration
iii. Postgraduate Diploma in Health System Management
iv. Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Resource Management

Entry Qualifications:
The applicant must have a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in the relevant
field or its equivalent in Social Science with PASS grade.

3. BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAMS (NTA Level 7)
i) Bachelors Degree in Social Work (Session A)
ii) Bachelors Degree in Labour Relations and Public Management (Session A)
iii) Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Management (Session A)
iv) Bachelors Degree in Business Administration (Session A)
v) Bachelors Degree in Nursing Education (Bugando - Mwanza)

A) Direct Entry Scheme


This category comprises:

Entry Qualifications:
Applicants who completed A level
i) Applicants must have at least a minimum of two principal passes(Cs) at
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) in related
subjects with minimum points of 4.0. A = 5; B+ = 4; B=3; C = 2; D=1). In
addition, they must have three (3) credits at Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE)-(Those who completed in 2014&2015).

ii) Applicants must have at least a minimum of two principal passes (Ds) at
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) in related
subjects with minimum points of 4.0. A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D=2; E=1). In addition,
they must have three (3) credits at Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE)-(Those who completed in 2016)

B) Equivalent Entry Scheme


This category comprises:
i) Applicants who completed a two-year Ordinary diploma (NTA level 6)
Entry Qualifications:
Applicants must have at a GPA of 3.0 and above from recognized Institutions. In
addition, they must have at least four passes (4) at Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE).

ii) Applicants who completed a two-year Diploma in Education


Entry Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least an average of B+ and above. In addition, they must
have at least four (4) passes at Certificate of Secondary Education Examination
(CSEE).

iii) Applicants with FTC


Entry Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least an average of C and above. In addition, they must have
at least four (4) passes at Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).

iv) Applicants with Health related awards such as Clinical Medicine


Entry Qualifications:

Applicants must have at least an average of B+ and above. In addition, they must
have at least four (4) passes at Certificate of Secondary Education Examination
(CSEE).

v) Applicants with Unclassified non-NTA Diplomas


Entry Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least an average of Upper Second Class and above. In
addition, they must have at least four (4) passes at Certificate of Secondary Education
Examination (CSEE).

vi) Entry Qualifications for Bachelor of Nursing Education (Mwanza Campus)


Applicants for this programme must have successfully completed Higher Diploma in Nursing
with at least an average of B+. In addition, they must have at least four (4) passes at
Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).

4. ORDINARY DIPLOMA PROGRAMS - NTA Level 5

i. Ordinary Diploma in Social Work (Session A&B)


ii. Ordinary Diploma in Labour Relations and Public Management (Session A& B)
iii. Ordinary Diploma in Human Resources Management (Session A & B)
iv. Ordinary Diploma in Business Administration (Session A & B)

Entry Qualifications:

A) Direct Entry Scheme


This category comprises:
Applicants who completed A level
i) Holder of Advanced Certificate in Secondary Education with at least &
minimum of one (1) principal pass and a subsidiary at Advanced Certificate of
Secondary Education in appropriate subjects amounting to 1.5 points (i.e.E&S).
In addition, the applicant must have three (3) credits from CSEE).

B) Equivalent Entry Scheme


This category comprises:

i) Holder of a certificate from an institution recognized by NACTE with a GPA of


2.7. In addition, the applicant must have three (4) passes from Certificate of
Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).

ii) Holder of a certificate in Nursing/ Midwifery and related courses, and Certificate in
Education (Grade III A) with at least three (4) passes from Certificate of
Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)

5. BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS (NTA Level 4)

i. Basic Technician Certificate in Social Work (Session A & B)


ii. Basic Technician Certificate in Labour Relations and Public management
(Session A & B)
iii. Basic Technician Certificate in Human Resources Management (Session A &B)
iv. Basic Technician Certificate in Business Administration (Session A& B)
v. Basic Technician in Community Work with Youth and Children (Session A&B)
vi. Basic Technician Certificate in Labour Relations and Public Management
(TUCTA - Mbeya Campus)

Entry Qualifications:
i. Four (4) passes of Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)
ii. Holds at least a Six (6) Month Certificate from any institution recognized by NACTE
or NTVA Level 3.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE
i) Applications for all programs shall be submitted DIRECTLY to the Institute
ii) Preview or download the application form and Tuition fee, available at
www.isw.ac.tz. Or Visit the admission office at the Institute for further
assistance.
iii) Applicants for Certificate, Diploma, and Post graduate diploma programs will pay
a Non-refundable application fee of 30,000/= and 50,000/=for Bachelors degree and
Masters Degree. Application Fees payments shall be made via the Institutes account
No. 01J1013365500 CRDB BANK.
iv) Those who completed form six this year (2017) can submit their applications from
mid July, 2017.
v) Session A refers to Regular programs while session B refers to Evening programs.
vi) Closing date for receiving applications for all programs is 20th August 2017.
