Guano artisanal capital of Ecuador

Guano is a beautiful city located in a small valley 6 km from the city of Riobamba. It is
recognized nationally and internationally for the elaboration of beautiful carpets and
other crafts. Guano is the seat of ancient cultures. There several archaeologists and
researchers have found traces of thousands of years ago, apparently the Tuncahun
cultures have settled here.

Among the main attractions that the city presents are the viewpoints, parks, churches, the
museum and its rich gastronomy.

Its viewpoints are unique from which you can look at the entire city. In addition you can
take excellent photographs of the various landscapes that Guano presents and the nature
that surrounds it.

The parks that the city presents are very beautiful, clean and pleasant for the people of
the city and for tourists, are places where people can spend a very pleasant time or relax
with their family.

The Museum of the city is located next to the Ruins of the Monastery of the Assumption
and the Children's Park of El Rosario. The Museum is distributed in six rooms: In room
one; it exposes aspects related to the environment. In room two, there are pottery vessels
exhibited at their best, authentic ceramics dating from the war period from 400 to 500
years after Christ, belonging to the Tuncahun and Puruh cultures. Most archaeological
pieces were found in the Ruins of El Rosario. In room three are referred to the Colonial
Age. In room four are exposed the crafts of Guano and mummy is also exhibited,
presumed to be the corpse of Fray "Lzaro". The mummy is one of the most visited
attractions of the city and has deserved the interest of scientists of diverse nature as they
are of National Geographic. In room six the loom is exposed for the weaving of carpets
and materials for the making of footwear.

Its gastronomy is well known and tasted by all the tourists that arrive to the city, among
its dishes we can mention:

The Cholas of Guano are buns, made with wheat flour, panela and other ingredients that
are the delight of the palate. No one who goes to Guano can be left without savoring
them.

The chorizo and the rich fritada that are accompanied by mote, cooked potatoes, lettuce,
onion, tomato, toasted and the pepper crushed in stone.
A well-known drink is chicha huevona (consisting of chicha de jora, mixed with eggs, sugar
and beer).

And finally there is the Dulce de leche that is made with milk, sugar and vanilla essence.
The original sweet is made with cow's milk.

Finally it can be said that Guano is one of the major tourist attractions that has the
province and the country for the enjoyment of domestic and foreign tourists. That is why
this city is a wonderful place that should be visited by all people.
