A DETAILED PLAN IN ENGLISH 6

Week 1 Day 4
I. Objectives:
A. Content Standard: The learner listens critically; communicate feelings and ideas orally and in
writing with high level of proficiency; and reads various text types materials to serve learning
needs.
B. Performance Standard: Compare a 3 line 4-stanza poem
C. Learning Competencies: Write a 3 line 4-stanza poem
II. Subject Matter: Writing a 3 line 4 stanza poem
III. References:
1. Joy in Learning English 5, pages 16-17
2. Across Boarders Through Reading
IV. Procedure:
A. Preparation: Ask the class to recite any poem that they learned in the lower grades. Ask
them: what makes that poem appealing to your? What are the rhyming words the author
used in that poem?
B. Presentation: Present the given poem on the board:

TRAVEL
By: Edna St. Vincent Millay
The railroad track is miles away,
And the day is loud with voices speaking,
Yet there isnt a train goes by all day
But I hear its whistle shrieking.
All night there isnt a train goes by,
Though the night is still for sleep and dreaming,
But I see its cinders red on the sky,
And hear its engine steaming.
My heart is warm with the friends I make,
And better friends Ill not be knowing;
Yet there isnt a train I wouldnt take,
No matter where its going.

C. Analysis and Discussion: Answer the given questions:


- Who is speaking in the poem?
- What is the mood or overall feeling expressed in the poem?
- What words rhyme at the end of the lines in the poem?
- What words in the poem create mental pictures that appeal to the senses of sight,
hearing, smell, taste, or touch?
- What message does the poem express?
D. Discuss other features/element in the writing a poem such as:
-rhymes - imagery
- measure - sound devices
-tone and mood - them or message
E. Explain the meaning of POEM
POEM is a literary text that conveys emotions, thoughts, and ideas in a clear and
creative way yet in limited number of words. Its element includes: point of view such as
first person, tone and mood, sound devices such as rhyme, imagery or mental pictures,
and theme or message
V. Evaluation: (Performance Task) Using the same group, let them compose another poem relating their
food memories in the school.
