1. WHO ARE WE?

The Mining Forum of South Africa (MFSA), with address 28 University Road Auckland Park,
Johannesburg,2006 and with registered number 2016/432509 under the Non-Governmental
Organization (NGO) Registration Act, at Pretoria by the government of the Republic of South
Africa.

I. OUR ROLE IN THE SOCIETY:

Mining Forum of South Africas aim is to defend the Mining Charter and the Mineral Petroleum
Resources Development Act (MPRDA) and champion compliance and enforcement of Social
and Labour Plans (SLPs). The Forum also advocate for the creation of training programmes
for unemployed youth and woman in the mining communities, mining professionals,
retrenched mine workers for skills development and employment to equip them so that they
can apply the skills in the workplace and give them a sense of purpose.

II. VISSION STATEMENT:

To see empowerment of Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA, fully participating


in the mining industry and reaping the benefits thereof. This includes ownership, procurement
and woman participation in the industry, and this includes Social and Labour Plans(SLPs)
implementation in the mining communities and conducive living and working conditions for 4
workers.

III. MISSION STATEMENT:

To be the primary advocate of the South African mining industry enforcing laws and
regulations that govern the mining industry while building a strong, responsible and globally
competitive South African mining and mineral processing industry that creates wealth and
opportunities for all.

V. OBJECTIVES:
The Forum is a non-profit organisation established for the following public benefit
objectives:
The object of the Forum shall be to:
1. Promote equitable access to the nation's mineral resources to all the people of South
Africa;

2. Promote, protect and defend the mining industry in South Africa;

3. Protect and defend the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) and its laws and
regulations;

4. Protect and defend the Mining Qualification Authority (MQA) by ensuring that it fully
functions as an administrator of skills development programmes for the mining and
minerals sector in South Africa;

5. Promote and enforce implementation of Social and Labour Plan (SLPs) in all mining
communities in South Africa;

6. Promote and enforce implementation of laws and regulations outlined in the Mineral
and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA);

7. Promote and enforce the implementation of the Mining Charter in mining industry-
the broad based socio-economic empowerment charter for the South African mining
industry; 5

8. Promote substantially and meaningfully expand opportunities for HDSA's including


women, to enter the mining and minerals industry and to benefit from the
exploitation of the nation's mineral resources;

9. Promote utilization of the existing skills base for the empowerment of HDSA's;

10. Promote expansion of the skills base of HDSA's to serve the Mining communities;

11. Promote employment and advance the social and economic welfare of mining
communities and the major labour sending areas; and;

12. Promote employment for mining professionals, this will include Learnerships and
Internships;

13. Promote environmental justice and sustainable development;

14. Promote beneficiation of South Africa's mineral commodities;

15. Actively promote the involvement of mining communities in the catchment


management activities of the Forum and

16. Develop university students community leadership capacity so that they can play a
meaningful part in the management of the Forum structures.

Blessings Ramoba is the Founder and President of the Mining Forum


of South Africa (MFSA). He is a Mining Engineer, a graduate of
University of Johannesburg, and has experience in the gold mining
sector working at Gold Fields and Sibanye Gold. He also worked as
Mining Qualification Authority Support Staff Lecturer and a
Researcher at the University of Johannesburg. As a Mining Activist, he
continues to fight for inclusive mining industry, strong, responsible
and globally competitive South African mining and mineral processing
industry that creates wealth and opportunities for all.
