The CAS coordinator will be a teacher in the general population of teachers and may not necessarily be a DP

teacher. However, the CAS coordinator will receive IBO-approved training in CAS. The decision to make the CAS
coordinator not necessarily a DP teacher was a conscious choice to export the values of IB education, the learner
profile, and CAS throughout the school community. The CAS coordinator will teach four to five classes and have
one to two additional planning periods of 90 minutes each to conduct CAS duties.

The CAS coordinator will:


1. plan CAS activities and facilitate students planning their own course, first by mining the school
community for ideas (beginning with the IB Parent Booster Club, student-led Application Part B
team, and the Diploma Programme team of teachers). The CAS coordinator will also search
un.org/millenniumgoals and the Online Curriculum Centre for additional examples of CAS ideas.
2. create policy statements.
3. supervise training activities of CAS advisors.
4. secure CAS commitment from all members of school community.
5. create lists of necessary resources.
6. give the DP coordinator regular updates for the webpage and to publicize achievements to local
media outlets.
7. make accommodations for Students with Exceptional Needs.
With the help of managebac.com, the CAS coordinator will:
1. ensure student preparation and reporting of each students CAS programme to IB.
2. design a simple progress form that notes evidence for each learning outcome.
3. develop a document that allows students to learn how to demonstrate the five components of a
CAS reflection: tell the reader what happened, why it happened, how it happened, what its value
was, and what the student learned from it.
4. create a formative feedback document.
The CAS coordinator will train advisors to:
1. identify a students personal / social goals and monitor range and balance of activities.
2. develop reflection through group discussion and individual consultation.
3. consider ethical concerns of CAS activities.
4. read and respond to journals.
5. help students make connections.
The CAS coordinator will meet as needed with diploma candidates to ensure they can:
1. search for ideas.
2. self-review and set personal goals.
3. plan, do and reflect using the design cycle.
4. meet at least twice in junior year and at least once in senior year with adviser.
5. establish for ones self a range of activities.
6. engage in at least one sustained project of significant duration.
7. ensure that at least some of the students CAS programme is self-initiated.
8. keep records of all activities.
9. show evidence of each of the eight learning outcomes.
10. demonstrate at least one event that involves teamwork and integrates two or more of Creativity,
Action and Service.
11. ensure at least some activities involve global significance to share our humanity.
The CAS coordinator will work with the DP Coordinator to:
1. contact outside individuals and agencies upon CAS team recommendation such as Rotary, Red
Cross, Duke of Edinburghs International Award scheme, YMCA and YWCA, Habitat for
Humanity, Amnesty International, Red Crescent, overseas embassies or other local organizations.
2. hold records.

The duties of the coordinator are to be commensurate with the size of the student cohort and number of mentors in
the Diploma Programme, Any non-CAS duties may change as the programme evolves and grows.
