Nevadas State Superintendent:

Keith W. Rheault is dedicated to fostering excellent educational opportunities provided to

all learners by sustaining a coherent, aligned system of instruction and support in

partnership with all educational communities.

Clark Countys Superintendent:

Dwight D. Jones the Superintendent shall implement all Board decisions and manage the

schools in accordance with law and Board policies. The Superintendent has

responsibilities related to students and the instructional program, personnel, non

instructional operations, and the community. The Superintendent also serves as a member

of the district's governance team and has responsibilities to support Board operations and

decision making.

Nevadas State School Board Members:

The State Board of Education is comprised of ten members and a non-voting student

representative; seven of the ten members are elected from Clark, Lincoln and Nye

Counties (District 1 through 7); one member is elected from Washoe County (District 8);

and two members are elected from the remaining thirteen counties of the State (Districts

9 and 10). District 1-Gloria Bonaventura, District 2-Annie Yvette Wilson, District 3-

Willia Chaney, District 4-Craig Wilkinson, District 5-Stavan Corbett, District 6-Sandy

Metcalf, District 7-Christopher Walllace, President, District 8-Adiriana Fralick, District

9-Dave Cook, Clerk and District 10-DR. Cliff Ferry, Vice President. The Nevada State

Board of Education acts as an advocate and visionary for all children and sets the policy

that allows every child equal access to educational services, provides the vision for a

premier educational system and works in partnership with other stakeholders to ensure
high levels of success for all in terms of job readiness, graduation, ability to be lifelong

learners, problem solvers, citizens able to adapt to a changing world and contributing

members of society. Members are elected on a non-partisan ballot for four-year terms and

are limited to three consecutive terms. Staff are organized as follows: Office of Special

Education, ESEA and School Improvement; Office of Technology and Innovative

Programs; Office of Teacher Licensure; Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education;

Office of Assessments, Program Accountability and Curriculum; Office of Fiscal

Accountability; Office of Child Nutrition and School Health, Office of Fiscal Services

and Office of Department Operations.

Clark Countys School Board Members:

Carolyn Edwards- President District F, Deanna L. Wright-Clerk District A, Lorraine

Alderman-Member District D, John Cole- Member District E, Erin E. Cranor-Member

District G and Chris Garvey Member District B. The Clark County Board of School

Trustees is a dedicated group of community leaders who are elected to overlapping four

year terms and represent a specific geographic region of Clark County. Although each

trustee represents a different region, they are dedicated to ensuring the success of every

student in the district through clear, concise direction to the superintendent. The trustees

bring a wealth of experience and concern for children to their position.

The U.S. Secretary of Education:

Arne Duncan was nominated to be secretary of education by President-elect Barack

Obama and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2009.

Establishing policies on Federal Aid as well as distributing and monitoring those funds;

Collecting data on U.S. Schools and disseminating research; Help focus national attention
of key educational issues; and Prohibiting discrimination and ensuring equal access to

education. Duncan called education "the most pressing issue facing America," adding that

"preparing young people for success in life is not just a moral obligation of society" but

also an "economic imperative." "Education is also the civil rights issue of our

generation," he said, "the only sure path out of poverty and the only way to achieve a

more equal and just society." Duncan expressed his commitment to work under the

leadership of President Obama and with all those involved in education "to enhance

education in America, to lift our children and families out of poverty, to help our students

learn to contribute to the civility of our great American democracy, and to strengthen our

economy by producing a workforce that can make us as competitive as possible."
