Video Lesson Plan Reflection

The lesson I taught focused on "requests" when ordering food/drink items at a restaurant or

store. The class is at a beginning level. Teaching context is at a local adult school in California. The

lesson went well overall. I brought a lot of visuals to enhance teaching and appeal to the visual learner.

My introduction was also engaging. I asked students what their favorite restaurant was. They happily

gave me an answer. lndex cards used to identify items also worked well. lt helped with spelling and

pronunciation. Towards the middle of the lesson, students were placed in pairs to role play being a

customer and a server. As I walked around, I observed the students interacting and using target phrases

of "Can 1". They were also being polite and using words such as "please" and "thank you". lf I could

redo the lesson, I would speed up the pace when teaching adults. I was talking to them like they were

little kids. As I watched the video, I realized that talkirrg clearly and annunciating syllables would limit

misunderstandings. Overall, this lesson helped me understand how to teach adults in an ESL classroom.
