WALL
WORD
Christmas

Personal / Portable / Classroom

Introduction
About this book:
This packet contains:
- a personal word wall to go inside a student binder
- a portable file-folder word wall (optional background: colour or white)
- large classroom word wall cards (optional background: colour or white)
- word wall worksheets
- blank file folder and word wall cards for you to add your own words

Classroom word walls are a fantastic tool for learning new vocabulary. It is also beneficial to equip
each child with a copy of their own so that can add their own words to it, and keep it when the
"seasonal" words are removed from the classroom wall. The file-folder word wall can be kept in your
word work/writing center, while the personal word wall is something children can keep with them at their
desks or take home when needed for homework

Directions for use:

Personal word wall
Print the pages included the personal word wall section, put them in plastic sleeves and then into
student binders. Alternatively, the pages can be glued into a notebook. If you would like your students
to order the words alphabetically, have them cut the words and paste them accordingly into their
books. Blank squares have been included so that students may add their own words.

File-folder portable word wall

Print the cover page and paste to the front of the folder. Select the Word Wall set you would like to
use (coloured or white background), print and paste to the middle pages of the folder. Print the
Word Work Task page and glue to the back of the folder - please note this should only be used if
you intend on using the worksheets I have provided.
Tip: If you do not wish to use 2 file-folders, then you may paste 3 pages on one side and 3 on the
other ensuring you only glue the top end so that children may flip the pages upwards.

Classroom word wall cards

Print your desired set, with or without background, along with the title page. Cut out the vocabulary
cards you wish to use and laminate them for durability. Display them on your classroom wall.

Happy Teaching :)

My book of...
Christmas
words

by Lavinia Pop
Introduction
About this book:
This seasonal vocabulary half-page booklet has been created to help students learn new
words.

Directions for use:

The booklet is quite versatile. I have listed a few ways in which it can be used below:

1. Personal vocabulary booklets: To assemble, print the pages you wish to use, cut them in
half and staple together. Alternatively, have your students put the pages in alphabetical
order before stapling.
To complete the page, students trace the vocabulary word in focus and then write it on the
line provided. I have also included extra writing lines (which can be photocopied to the back
of each page) if you would like your students to create sentences with the words. Once
completed, students can then colour the pictures.
This can be done as a whole class activity or in small groups.

2. Collaborative classroom booklet: If you choose to do this, you will end up with 2 booklets
- use one this year and save the other for the following year. Give each student only one
page to work on using the ideas suggested above. Once completed, collect the pages and
staple them together to make a classroom booklet.

3. Homework: Select a few pages, print them and send them home with your students to
work on during the week.

Happy Teaching!

Introduction
About this book:
This book contains a collection of games and activities intended for use in centers and small
groups with children in Kindergarten (Prep).

Directions for use:

1. Christmas write & wipe numbers
To prepare the cards for use in a write and wipe center, print, laminate them, and then cut
them apart. The intention of this activity is for children to practice correct number
formation with a dry-erase marker. The cards can be kept in a book-like format by
punching a whole in the top left corner and securing together with a key ring or a pipe-
cleaner.

2. Christmas counting Clip It!

Print, laminate and cut out the picture cards and the letter circles. Glue the letter circles
(using craft glue or a hot glue gun) on to the pegging end of a clothes peg. Alternatively,
you can write the numbers using a permanent marker on the pegs, or stick on some number
stickers. The aim of this activity is for children to count the objects on the cards and to clip
a clothes peg on the correct number. Alternatively, children can use dry-erase markers to
colour the correct number.

3. Gingerbread numeral and number word match

Print, laminate and cut out the gingerbread people and gumdrops. The aim of this activity is
for children to match the numeral on the gingerbread people to the gumdrop number word.

4. Christmas ten frame addition

Print, laminate and cut out all the cards. Follow the instructions on the spinner page to
prepare it for use. Store all the pieces together in a zip-lock bag, an envelope or a storing
device that suits you best.
Game play: Children spin the spinner and show the number they spun by placing same
coloured tokens on the ten frame. Children then fill up the rest of the ten frame with tokens
of a different colour. Children write down how many different ways they can make 10 on the
response sheet provided.
5.Christmas missing numbers write & wipe (skip counting by 10s)
To prepare this write and wipe activity, print, laminate and cut out all the cards. You may like to
make a hole in the top left hand corner of each card and secure all the cards together with a key
ring, pipe cleaner or ribbon. The aim is for children to identify the missing number on each card
and write it using a dry-erase marker.

6. Christmas build-a-pattern (AB/AAB/AABB/ABC)

I have included a full colour version as well as a printer-friendly version without the background. To
set up, print and laminate all the pages. Cut the Pattern mats in half and then cut the picture-
pattern cards apart. Store all the pieces together in a zip-lock bag, an envelope or a storing
device that suits you best. The aim of this activity is for children to build a pattern on their pattern
mats following the example on from one of the cards. They then need to fill in the empty square
with the correct picture to complete the pattern.

7. Ornaments tally match

Print, laminate and cut out the cards. The aim of this activity is for children to match the
tally marks on the ornaments to the correct numeral and hand representation.

8. Christmas count, tally and graph write & wipe

This activity can be used in a write and wipe center (coloured version) or as a worksheet (version
with no background). To prepare this activity, print and laminate (optional) the cards. The aim is
for children to count, tally and then graph the different images on each card. Children use a dry-
erase marker (if laminated) to show their results on the graph.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:

9. Reindeer greater than, less than, equal to (pictures and numbers)

To prepare this activity for use, print and laminate all the cards and reindeer signs in this
section. The aim is for children to identify which number is greater, which is less or whether
the numbers are equal.

10. Christmas place value write & wipe (teen numbers to 29)
To prepare the cards for use in a write and wipe center, print, laminate and cut the cards
apart. The aim of this activity is for children to write how many tens and one in each column
and then how many in total in the middle circle.

Kindergarten / Prep
Introduction
About this book:
This book contains a collection of games and activities intended for use in centers and small
groups with children in Kindergarten (Prep).

Directions for use:

1. Christmas write & wipe alphabet
To prepare the cards for use in a write and wipe center, print, laminate them, and then cut
them apart. The intention of this activity is for children to practice correct letter formation
with a dry-erase marker. The cards can be kept in a book-like format by punching a whole
in the top left corner and securing together with a key ring or a pipe-cleaner.

2. Christmas ornament missing letters

To prepare the cards for use, print, laminate and cut apart. Children are required to
identify the missing letter and place it in the empty box.

3. Christmas beginning sounds Clip It! (single letter sounds, blends and digraphs)
Print, laminate and cut out the picture cards and the letter circles. Glue the letter circles
(using craft glue or a hot glue gun) on to the pegging end of a clothes peg. Alternatively,
you can write the letters using a permanent marker on the pegs, or stick on some alphabet
stickers. The aim of this activity is for children to correctly identify the beginning sound for
each picture on the cards and to clip a clothes peg on the correct letter sound.
Alternatively, children can use dry-erase markers to colour the circle with correct beginning
sound.

4. Christmas Syllables Clip It!

To prepare this activity for use, print the cards, laminate them and then cut them apart.
Household pegs, or other small clipping items such as unused hair clips or paper clips, can
be used for this activity. The aim is for children to identify the number of syllables in each
word.

5. Christmas tree word family sort

To prepare this activity, print, laminate and cut apart the Christmas trees and ornaments.
The aim is for children to identify the ending of each picture and sort it to the correct word
family tree.
6. Christmas stocking CVC words scramble
Please note: You will need to provide children with magnetic or Scrabble letter tiles for this
activity. To prepare this activity for use, print the Christmas stocking cards, laminate them and
then cut them out. For a self-checking activity, print the answer pages on the back using the
duplex printing method found on most printers; alternatively, the answers can be written by
hand.
The aim of this activity is for children to collect the letter tiles shown on each card and
arrange them to build the word for each picture.

7. Christmas roll/spin and rhyme

To prepare this game, print the game board, game cards, answer card and either the spinning
circle OR the die. Follow the instructions on the page to set up the spinner or the die.
Laminate the game board, cards and answer page, and then cut the rhyming cards apart.
Store all the pieces together in a zip-lock bag, an envelope or a storing device that suits you
best.
This game works best played in pairs, but can be played individually or with a smaller group of
children. Children take turns rolling the die or spinning the spinner and after each roll/spin,
they try to find a picture card which rhymes with what they have rolled/spun. Game play
continues until all the rhyming cards have been used and the game board is covered. Children
can check their answers after game play has finished using the Answer Card provided.

8. Christmas Santa sight words scramble (Pre-Primer Dolch Words)

To prepare this activity for use, print the Santa shapes, laminate them and then cut them out.
The aim of this activity is for children unscramble the letters on each card to make a sight
words from the Dolch Pre-Primer list. Once a sight word has been built, they can write it in the
word boxes provided.

9. Christmas build-a-word
To prepare this activity for use, print, laminate and cut out all the letter tiles and building mats.
Store them together in a zip-lock bag, an envelope or a storing device that suits you best.
This is an activity that works best done individually, or in a group of a few children where
rotation of building mats takes place. The aim is to build the word on the mat using the letter
tiles provided. Children then record the words they have built in their booklets.
* You can also use Scrabble letter tiles or magnetic alphabet letters instead of the letter cards
included in this unit.*

10. Label It!

Print and laminate the cards (if using coloured version). The aim of this activity is for children
to identify and label the pictures using the word bank at the bottom of the page. I have
included a page with border and one without to help save on ink.

Christmas
Picture Scrambles

Lavinia Pop
Introduction
About this book:
This book contains a Christmas vocabulary picture scramble booklet and 20 sight word
picture scramble pages, intended for use with children in Kindergarten (Prep) and Grade
1.

Directions for use:

To assemble the Christmas vocabulary booklet, print the pages, cut them in half, and then
staple on the left hand side. Make sure to leave the picture scramble page (p.12) intact
as children will cut the pictures apart when completing the activity.

For both the booklet and worksheets, the aim is for children to cut the pictures along the
dotted lines, and then to order them correctly to spell the focus thematic or sight word. The
booklet also contains a writing activity, requiring children to colour the word, trace the word,
then write the word twice.

Tip: I recommend that children begin by colouring the pictures in the boxes. They may not
be able to make out exactly what the image will be, or which colours to use and how to
match them between the boxes, but it will be much harder to colour in after gluing! Of
course, if using a glue stick, children can colour the images after they have glued them in
the correct order!

Happy Teaching :)

Christmas Words
Introduction
About this book:
This book contains 24 Christmas and 4 Religious secret sentence cut and paste worksheets intended for use with children in
Kindergarten (Prep) and Grade 1.

Directions for use:

The aim of this activity is for children to identify the beginning sound for each picture and cover it with the corresponding letter tile.
Once all the images have been covered with the letters, children can read the secret sentence they deciphered and then complete one
of the recording sheets included.
Some children will want to colour in the beginning sound pictures rather than cover them up, and that is fine - just supply them with a
second piece of paper and they can paste their letters on it, being sure to carefully follow the order of letters from the original sheet.

For children finding it difficult to identify the beginning sounds, I have also included a key that they can use.

This is definitely a fun way to practice beginning sounds, sight words and thematic vocabulary!

SCRAMBLE
by Lavinia Pop Christmas
Introduction
About this book:
This book contains a collection of Christmas-themed sentence building printables and follow up worksheets intended for use with
children in Kindergarten (Prep) and Grade 1.

Directions for use:

There are a couple of ways in which the contents of this unit can be used to target the different learning levels of students:

1. Sentence Scramble Center: Print the word/picture cards (p. 5-15) and laminate them for durability. Cut along the dotted lines to
separate them. Each one is numbered to show the ones that belong together in a sentence. The aim is for children to arrange the cards
to build a sentence, and then complete the corresponding cut and paste sheet from the first set of worksheets (p. 16-38).

2. Cut and Paste Word Work: This activity (p. 39-61) is an easier alternative for children who cannot yet build sentences
independently; they use the sentence on each page as a guide to order the words correctly. Using the word/picture cards for this
activity is optional; set up is as outlined above.

The worksheets in this book can be used while working with the entire class, in small groups, or individually. They can also be assigned as
homework for additional practice to reinforce sight words and vocabulary learnt in the classroom.
