EXPANDED TALK OUTLINE

I. Introduction
Speakers read through 1 Peter 1: 1-14 as his/her resource reading in handling
this topic completely.

When God chooses people to carry out His mission, He doesnt choose the
richest, or the wisest of men. Rather, God sees the heart and chooses persons who
are available to have the heart for Him. God did the same when Jesus chose Simon
Peter.

Who among you here know who SIMON PETER is? Let me tell you who he is.
Some people put a halo over him and call him St. Peter. From history books, his
Aramaic name is CEPHAS. But Jesus gave him the name PETER, meaning THE
ROCK.
II. The Man Named Peter
Peter was pretty tough character in His younger days. His father, Jonah, was a
fisherman who lived in Galilee on the shores of the sea. Peter had a couple of
buddies, James and John; they ran a fishing business that gave them a pretty fair
living.

Peter has four (4) basic yet admirable attributes or qualities:

A. Peter was a MAN OF ACTION

He never hesitated in anything he does. He always do what He taught
was right. It was this quality that made him a leader.

B. Peter was a MAN OF COMMITMENT AND LOYALTY

He showed his commitment and loyalty to God when he quickly walked
away from his net and vowed allegiance to God from Galilee. Lord, no
matter what others may do, Ill die for you.

C. Peter was a MAN OF COURAGE

When temple guards seized Jesus as He prayed alone in the garden, it was
Peter who drew His sword in defense. Though at one point he denied Christ,
he was the only one of the disciples who even tried to stay close by Jesus in
His hour of trial.

D. Peter was a MAN OF CONVICTION

In his preaching with Jesus, his famous line says, I say you are the
Son of God. It was the same conviction that, fired by the outpouring of the
Holy Spirit caused Peter to become the early leader of the Church. His
conviction to serve and love God eventually caused His life for the cause of
Jesus Christ. Peter was crucified upside down, because He did not deem
himself worthy to die as His Lord had died.

III. Called to be Peter

Maybe you are wondering why we are talking about the life of a man who
lived and died 2000 years ago.

We are called to be like PETER of today. There is something in the life of this
man that is in all of us. Like Him, we too, are called to be MAN AND WOMAN OF
ACTION, OF COMMITMENT AND OF LOYALTY, OF COURAGE AND OF CONVICTION.

A. Man and Woman of Action

We should be willing to do the things we believed is right and
pleasing to God. Never hesitate to follow God in whatever He wants us to
do.
B. Man and Woman of Commitment and Loyalty
We should be willing to serve the Lord in whatever circumstance
it is comfortable and uncomfortable for use. We know how to practice
loyalty to family, to brothers and sisters in YFC and to our country.

C. Man and Woman of Courage

We should work hard to achieve our goals and dreams in life, do
good in our studies, serve in our community amidst difficulty and love
God amidst of all the problems.

D. Man and Woman of Conviction

We should fight for what we believed in. Having conviction and love for
the things that God is calling us to do. We should be steadfast in faith and
put all of our trust in Him.

IV. Conclusion
Like Peter, our lives may not be perfect, but the way God used Him amidst
his fault and failures should give us hope, for the God who changed Peters life, it is
the same God who is still in the business of changing imperfect people like us.

Let us pray that as we continue to aspire to be Men and Women of God, we

can continue to strive to remember these qualities and attributes: ACTION,
COMMITMENT AND LOYALTY, COURAGEOUS, AND CONVICTION.
