Dawasmau Holiday Programme Activities

Objective:

Volunteers to plan a variety of Kids Clubs in six villages throughout the Dawasamu District.

Summary:

Volunteers used the Holiday Programme time to plan multiple kidz clubs and create useful
teaching tools for both Navunisea District School and Dawasamu District School including
World Maps and Schools signs.

Report:

The Dawasamu District Holiday Programme began with a splash as the volunteers planned
multiple Kidz Clubs in several different villages with activities and projects inspired by
Under the Sea. The morning and afternoon sessions took place in Nasinu, Tacileka, Silana,
Natadradave, and Driti village with an awesome sports day to finish the week in Nataleira.
Each day, the volunteer worked with 30 different kids ranging in ages from 3 to 15, doing
arts and crafts, reading, dancing, and other active games.
The Holiday Programme finished with the Amazing Race Silana Village requiring the children
of the village to solve puzzles and create masterpieces to receive a clue to the next
destination. Each team had to coordinate their creativity, intelligence and their teamwork in
order to complete the different challenges.

Volunteers also used the Holiday Programme time to create useful teaching tools for both
Navunisea District School and Dawasamu District School including World Maps and Schools
signs. Both schools are still struggling to repair classrooms and improve their facilities
following Cyclone Winston, and the addition of classroom tools like maps will help return
the classrooms to a teaching environment.

Holiday Programmes are always a fantastic way for volunteers to work with students in a
different learning environment. Many children in Dawasamu have access to very little
structured activities during their school breaks and are always excited to join the GVI
volunteers in planned learning activities. It is great fun for all!
