RE: General Guidelines for Crediting of JTA Courses

The following are the guidelines in having your planned JTA Courses credited as Management and
Free Electives.

Minimum # of units to take

The minimum # of units that you need to take abroad is at least 15 Ateneo units. Please ask the
Office of International Relations (OIR) for the conversion of your JTA universitys credit unit to Ateneo
credit unit. (e.g. for those going to universities that use ECTS, 2 ECTS units = 1 Ateneo unit)

If your university will not allow you to take the equivalent 15 Ateneo units abroad, please attach to
your Learning Agreement Form an official correspondence with a university official of your host school
that mentions this limitation.

Classes that can be taken abroad

Once you have obtained a master list of courses you can take in your JTA university, you may come
to your respective Program Advisers for advice. In general, a course can be credited as a
Management Elective (ME) if it is related to the Program of the student, and there is an equivalent
course in the Loyola Schools (LS). A course already taken by the student (e.g. Principles of
Marketing), or will be taken by the student as a core course in the LS (e.g. Strategic Management)
cannot be taken abroad. The rest can be taken as a Free Elective (FE).

Crediting subjects as Management and Free Electives

The number of electives that students can credit depends on their current program in the JGSOM,
which is shown in the table below:
PROGRAM ME FE
CTM 2 2
ITE 2 2
LM 2 2
MAC 0 0
ME 2 2
MGT 3 2
MGT-H 3 2

You can credit an elective using a single course or multiple courses taken abroad. If you credit an
elective using multiple courses, then the total units of the courses must be at least 3 Ateneo units
converted. For example, you may use 2 courses with 3 and 4 ECTS units (for a total of 7 ECTS, 3.5
Ateneo units converted) to credit an elective. The ADAA has given special exceptions and allowed a
single course with 5 ECTS units to be credited as a 3 unit Ateneo elective.

Looking for an equivalent LS class for your electives

For Management Electives, you must find a corresponding course available in the LS for the course/s
you plan to use to validate them. Please download the Bulletin of Information pdf available in the
www.ateneo.edu/ls website. You only need to look for an equivalent course if you are validating a ME.
For FE, you do not need to find an equivalent course.

Crediting courses for a Minor Program

Courses abroad may also be credited as electives for your Minor Program. Once you have obtained a
master list of courses you can take in your JTA university, you may come to your Minor Program
Director for advice.
